How do I know if I am eligible to receive free travel insurance?

  • You must be under 70 years of age at time of booking with Explore.
  • You must be a resident of the UK or Ireland and have a permanent UK/Irish address from which your booking is made.
  • Your Explore holiday must be confirmed by us between 01 January 2015 and 31 August 2015

Valid for all Explore holidays: Discovery Tours, Cycling, Walking and Trekking Adventures, Family Adventures, Tailormade, Self-Guided, Private Journeys and Polar Voyages.  This offer does not apply to the Tours for Churches programme. 

I have checked eligibility and I qualify for Explore’s  free Travel insurance,  what do I do next and what insurance documentation will I get?
Simply download a copy of the policy document and ensure you read the full policy terms and conditions to ensure that the policy meets your specific demands and needs as the cover is issued on a non-advised basis from a single insurer. This is the only documentation you need. It’s that simple! You will not require an Insurance certificate, just your Explore booking confirmation and a copy of the policy document. A hard copy of the policy document is available  upon request at cr@explore.co.uk

If I am over 70 years old, how do I arrange travel insurance?
Please contact Campbell Irvine, tel: 0844 375 6154 who may be able to assist you in purchasing appropriate cover for persons of any age.

If I have a pre-existing medical condition, can I receive the free travel insurance?
Please contact the Medical Screening Helpline tel: 01702 427 237 and quote reference CIAM15EXPL. The Medical Screening Helpline will be able to tell you if additional cover can be offered to include your disclosed medical condition(s) and if so whether a supplementary premium applies. Your failure to contact the Medical Screening Helpline and pay the quoted supplementary premium will mean any known medical conditions will be excluded from cover.

Please note that it is a condition of booking with Explore that any pre-existing medical conditions which you have must be fully covered before you travel with us.

If I do not qualify for Explore’s included travel insurance what should I do? 
Travel insurance is mandatory for everyone travelling on an Explore tour. You will need to confirm to your Tour Leader that you are adequately covered by a travel insurance policy at the start of the tour.

Non qualifying customers must arrange their own insurance cover at their own expense. Please ensure the following:

  • Your insurance documentation must state that you are the named policyholder
  • Cover must be valid for the entire duration of your travels
  • You must be covered for Medical Expenses and Medical Emergency Repatriation in the event of illness or injury (including the deterioration of known medical conditions)
  • Your policy must cover you fully for all activities you’re planning on taking part in on your holiday (such as water-sports or trekking at altitude).
  • Your insurance documentation must indicate a 24-hour contact telephone number for your Insurance Company in case of an emergency.

If you are unable to confirm this information at the start of your tour, you will not be able to continue your trip with us.

What does the Explore Free of Charge insurance policy cover me for?
You are covered for cancellation or curtailment of your holiday up to £5,000 per person. Cancellation cover becomes active from the date your Explore holiday is confirmed by us. All other sections of cover including emergency medical and repatriation apply for the duration of your Explore holiday as stated on your Explore holiday documentation. Please read the policy document carefully. It is your responsibility to ensure the policy meets your personal requirements. If the Explore policy is not suitable for your needs, you must arrange alternative travel insurance at your own expense.

What if the value of my holiday is greater than £5,000 per person?
Please contact Campbell Irvine, tel: 0844 375 6154 to arrange supplementary top up insurance to cover the entire value of your holiday. Please note, this will require you to pay them a supplementary premium directly. Alternatively, you can arrange insure your entire holiday elsewhere.

What if I have extended my Explore holiday to include independent travel before/after the Explore holiday?
Please contact Campbell Irvine, tel: 0844 375 6154 to arrange supplementary top up insurance to cover your extended stay. Please note, this will require you to pay Campbell Irvine a supplementary premium directly. Alternatively, you can arrange insure your entire trip elsewhere.

Does the Free Explore policy cover me for all activities?
Any activity booked through or organised by Explore as part of your Explore tour will be automatically covered. If you intend to undertake any hazardous or adventurous activities that have not been pre-booked through  or organised by Explore you must contact Campbell Irvine, tel: 0844 375 6154 to arrange supplementary top up insurance to cover the activity. Please note, this will require you to pay them a supplementary premium directly. Alternatively, you can arrange insure your entire holiday elsewhere.

Is Winter Sports cover provided as part of the free of charge insurance policy?
Yes. Cover will automatically extend to include winter sports activities when booked and arranged by Explore as part of the pre-booked trip itinerary. Any winter sports activities booked independently of Explore would be excluded from cover unless referred to Campbell Irvine and supplementary cover purchased.
 
I already have adequate travel insurance elsewhere – can I receive a rebate for not taking the Explore included policy?
No. This is a specially arranged group policy which is non-refundable to individuals.

I already purchased travel insurance from Explore for this holiday – can I receive a refund for the premium I have paid?
You can only receive a refund of the premium you have already paid us for your Explore travel insurance if you are within the 14-day cooling off period and you are yet to travel and have not made a claim. Our Included travel insurance is a specially arranged group policy is for qualifying customers only who have booked after 01 January 2015 and is non-refundable to individuals.

I booked prior to January 2015 – can I have free insurance?  How do I get insurance if not.
To qualify for our free Travel insurance offer your Explore holiday must be confirmed by us between 01 January 2015 and 31 August 2015. If not, you must arrange your own insurance cover at your own expense.  You can  contact Campbell Irvine, tel: 0844 375 6154 to arrange insurance to cover your holiday. Please note, this will require you to pay them a premium directly. Alternatively, you can arrange to insure your holiday elsewhere.

I would prefer to have an Annual Multi Trip insurance policy – can I purchase this from Explore?

Are Explore Regulated by the FCA?
