Family wildlife holidays

There's nothing like seeing the wonder on your children's faces as they spot their favourite animals in the wild, from elephant and lion in Africa, to howler monkey, sloth and beautifully-coloured birds in the Costa Rica rainforest.

Small group family wildlife adventures

Take a family wildlife holiday and see your favourite creatures in their natural habitats. Take a safari holiday to spot the Big Five, head out on a jungle trek to see the weird and wonderful howler monkey in Costa Rica, or go on a game drive in an open top jeep in Ranthambore National Park, India, in search of the Bengal Tiger.

Our family wildlife tours range from Relaxed to Full-On but most are somewhere in between. Our average group size is just three to five families, small enough to get up close to your destination and, crucially, the wildlife. Our expert local tour leaders have been selected for their knowledge of their country, passion and experience in working with family groups.

Weird and wonderful creatures in Costa Rica
Take a Family Costa Rica Rainforest and Wildlife Adventure and witness the weird and wonderful first hand in one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. See beautifully-coloured birds on a bird watching trip at dawn. Or trek into the jungle to understand more about the area’s unique ecosystem. Follow the waterways further and you might come across howler monkeys, or the elusive ocelots cat and jaguar. You might be lucky enough to see the different species of turtle nesting close to our lodge.

Jeep safari in Ranthambore, India
Go on a game drive in India’s most iconic National Park Ranthambore, with it’s many rivers, lakes and forests surrounded by steep cliffs and rocky outcrops. A six-seater open top jeep is the perfect way to spot one of the over 40 tigers in residence. The park is also home to Sloth bear, langur, striped hyenas, marsh crocodiles, pythons and Ganga soft-shelled turtles. Just one of the highlights on our Family India Golden Triangle Adventure.

Seek out the big five in South Africa
Hop on a safari vehicle in the Kruger National Park, South Africa, one of the world’s premier game reserves. The park was established in 1898 to protect big game that had almost been hunted to extinction. A huge number of species are present including elephant, lion, black and white rhino, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wild dog, hyena, wildebeest and almost all of South Africa’s species of antelope. The bird life is just as impressive with crowned cranes, bee-eaters and vultures. Finish the day listening to the sounds of the African bush. Part of our Family South Africa Safari and Beach Adventure tour.

What to expect on a family wildlife holiday

How much activity is there on a family wildlife tour?
We have different paces of trip to suit different families and ages of children. Our ‘Relaxed’ tours have plenty of time to see the sights of your destination. Our ‘Moderate’ trips have fuller days with down-time built into the itinerary whereas our ‘Full-On’ family tours are busier, with some early starts and longer travel days.

When designing our family wildlife tours we've blended additional family-friendly activities alongside wildlife-spotting activities like game drives. Everyone gets their spectacular close up wildlife encounters and the children get a chance to try out some exciting activities along the way, like visiting local tribes and coffee plantations, swimming beneath waterfalls and canoeing.

What age are the children on a family wildlife holiday?
The average age of children travelling on our family wildlife holidays is 13, though it will depend on the trip you choose. If you'd like to get an idea of who is travelling on a particular trip, get in touch with our travel specialists and we can share the number and ages of children on your chosen trip so you can find the right fit for your family.

Is there an age limit for children on a family wildlife tour?
To make sure that you get the most out of your family wildlife tour, there is an age limit of seven years on the date of departure for the majority of our trips. For some trips, there is a minimum age of eleven.

How many families travel together on a small group family wildlife adventure?
In general, you'll travel with three to five other families on a family wildlife adventure. We have found this is the perfect number for meeting new people and getting to the heart of our destinations.
