For more than 30 years Explore have been organising a diverse and exciting range of walking and trekking holidays all over the world. More recently we’ve developed a handful of treks planned specifically for families. Whether your family is new to trekking or has previous hiking experience, you will find we have a good selection of carefully planned walks and treks to choose from.
All of our family walking and trekking holidays are ‘supported’, which means your luggage is transported for you between overnight stops. All you need carry while you walk is a daysack with whatever you may need during the day.
Typically you will be walking in a small group of up to 16, along with an experienced and fully trained tour leader. Depending on the trek you may also have guides, porters, muleteers, cooks and camping crew with you too. Many families tell us that the camaraderie between the kids and the crew is one of the highlights of the whole holiday.
We also organise family walking and trekking holidays on a tailor-made basis, customising the route, duration and level of difficulty to suit your family, on your preferred dates and to a budget set by you.
Our range of family walks and treks includes challenging routes in Nepal’s Everest region, along the Inca Trail in the Andes or to the summit of North Africa’s highest point, Mount Toubkal in Morocco. These are for families with children aged 11+, but options for younger families include a gentler walk in the terraced foothills of Nepal’s magnificent Annapurna region.
Alternatively you could join us for a hike from village to village through the jungles of Northern Thailand, or in China for easy walks between villages along the ‘Dragon’s Backbone’ in the Longji Hills, an area of dramatic, terraced rice paddies. In Morocco your family could enjoy hiking the mule tracks between Berber hamlets in the Atlas Mountains and in Cuba you could experience the diverse wildlife of the Topes de Collantes mountains, hiking between traditional ‘haciendas’ (converted farmhouses).
