Tailormade Morocco

On a tailor-made holiday to Morocco, discover the exotic mix of mountains and beaches, plus vast deserts and vibrant cities. But it's not just the landscapes that make this unique country; the diverse people of Morocco have greatly influenced the country's culture and way of life. For example, Morocco Berbers live a traditional lifestyle in the mountains, whereas busy, cosmopolitan cities like Fes and Marrakech see a blend of people and history, with intricate examples of ancient Arabic architecture. In the west of Morocco, Casablanca is home to the country's more modern example of Islamic design, such as the King Hassan II Mosque, built in 1993.

Being situated so close to Europe has undoubtedly shaped Morocco's architecture, which you can admire on a number of our Explore Tailormade trips to Morocco. In the coastal town of Essaouira, Portuguese fortifications surround the town. Elsewhere, the ancient frontier town of Volubilis is home to impressive Roman ruins and mosaics, and to the north, the city of Chefchaouen still retains its Arabic-Andalusian charm, with its famous blue-washed buildings.

Morocco is the exotic gateway to Africa, giving you the opportunity to experience an entirely different culture with only a short flight from Europe. It is a beautiful and captivating country to visit all year round - be it hiking in the Atlas Mountains, getting lost in the labyrinth of souks in Marrakech or watching the sunset over the Moroccan desert. With such a diverse mix of landscapes and activities on offer, a short haul flight and good value accommodation, Morocco is the perfect holiday location for the whole family.

Country Information

With a labyrinth of narrow streets, walking through the medina is like stepping back in time. Enjoy watching the artisans at work, bartering in the souks and eating in the street-front restaurants, while soaking up the buzz of Fes el-Bali.

Characterful hotels
There are excellent options for accommodation in Morocco, whatever your tastes. When visiting Marrakech and Fes, enjoy your stay in a riad, a traditional house centred around a courtyard, then visit a kasbah, built for defense on higher ground, offering wonderful views.

Erg Chebbi
Experience camel trekking or dune bashing on the mammoth Saharan sand dunes at Erg Chebbi. After enjoying a beautiful sunset, savour a cooked meal in a traditional Berber camp and sleep beneath a blanket of stars. Just magical.

Walking and trekking in Morocco
Trek from Imlil in the foothills of the High Atlas mountains, through small villages to the summit of Mount Toubkal. For something more relaxed go for day treks in the Ouirgane Valley, the Middle Atlas Mountains or Todra Gorge.

Meet Sarah Slocomb, Regional Specialist for Morocco

"Whether you wish to trek the heights of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa; soak up the atmosphere of the enigmatic cities and barter in the souks, or discover the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Meknes and Volubilis, Morocco really has something to offer everyone."

Hiking in the Atlas Mountains and trekking to Jebel Toubkal on a tailor-made holiday means you get to go at your own pace. Trekking to the summit of Mount Toubkal is achievable for anyone of average fitness who is willing to put in a little time before they travel.

Making your own personal arrangements instead of travelling with a group means you can spend a little longer on the walking if you wish and have the option to book different styles of accommodation. At the base of the mountain there are two accommodation options, one with dormitory style rooms and one offering twin share rooms. Both are set in great locations for starting the trek, and offer a hearty breakfast to power you through the climb and you can choose to spend just one night here before your summit attempt, or relax and spend a second night here after the climb.

The small village of Imlil is one of the most popular places to spend time both before and after trekking and accommodation options range from simple guesthouses to comfortable riads with stunning mountain views. Our Regional Specialists can help plan the perfect itinerary for you based on your preferences and budget.
