Tailormade Vietnam

An Explore Tailormade holiday to Vietnam allows you to discover a land of vivid and colourful contrasts, culturally diverse people, dramatic landscapes and a fascinating historical legacy. Visiting Vietnam is an enriching and enlivening experience.

Northern Vietnam has fantastic scenery, quintessentially South-East Asian with fertile valleys of lush paddy fields where farmers and their conical hats dot the landscape. This is an area of traditional, colourful hill tribes and one of the best ways to discover the small villages and meet the locals is with a walking tour or bike ride. Vietnam’s busy capital city, Hanoi, is a contrast of modern highrise office buildings, a busy shopping quarter, peaceful lakes, ancient temples and French colonial architecture. Travel a few hours east to peaceful Halong Bay to sail, swim and snorkel around stunning limestone outcrops.

The central regions of Vietnam are home to some of the country’s most interesting sights; from the emotive Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) and little-visited Vinh Moc Tunnels to the caves and Buddhist statues of the Marble Mountains. Get lost in the backstreets and explore Chinese-inspired architecture in charming Hoi An and head to the elegant pagodas and bridges of Hue - Central Vietnam is a must on any itinerary.

The south of Vietnam is a wonderful mix of tropical islands and peaceful beaches, bustling cities and enchanting towns. On a trip to Vietnam you can go bird watching in Cat Tien National Park, explore the floating markets and canals on a bassac cruise in the vibrant Mekong Delta, and crawl through the famous Cu Chi Tunnels.

Country Information

The huge cave at Phong Nha near Dong Hoi was used as a hospital and storage unit during the American War, and nearby Paradise Cave, an unbelievable 31km in length, has colossal stalagmites and stalactites. Visit Tam Coc and Mua Caves from nearby Ninh Binh or lesser visited But Cave.

National Parks

Explore excellent national parks on a tailor-made holiday to Vietnam. Cuc Phuong National Park is often referred to as 'Halong Bay on land', however rather than impressive rock formations jutting out of the sea, here they rise from flat rice paddies; it's also a great place for bird watching with over 330 species recorded. On a tailor-made trip you can explore by bike or sampan, floating along the quiet rivers. Pu Luong Nature Reserve near Mai Chau has outstanding scenery of rice terraces and tropical forests with waterfalls and minority villages. Cat Tien National Park is great for migratory birds as well as butterflies, gibbons and an array of flora. Nature lovers will enjoy walks in Bach Ma National Park. The old French hill station has lakes, waterfalls, a fifth of the country's flora and is home to over 350 species of birds.

Learn a new craft

Take a tour of the local market before a cookery class to learn all about Vietnamese cuisine. Discover how proud locals from Hoi An create their wonderful lanterns or learn all about 'kinh van van', the Vietnamese martial art founded in Hue.

Vietnam has endless beaches, perfect for winding down at the end of a busy itinerary. Phu Quoc Island is a wonderful retreat, located near to the Cambodian border. Because of its remoteness it can be expensive to get to, so we recommend Mui Ne beach near Phan Thiet or Ho Tram where you can chill out around the pool of your resort.

Meet Sophie Newbold, Regional Specialist for Vietnam

"Vietnam truly awakens the senses. Whether it's the sights, sounds or tastes, there's always something captivating. Lose yourself in the vibrant markets of the country's cities, walk the winding streets of the ancient trading town of Hoi An or observe the relaxed life of the Mekong Delta while you travel by boat through the winding waterways of the lush south. Walking through the stunning hills is a great way to discover the far north's beauty by foot and Halong Bay will not fail to inspire you with its other-worldly enchantment."

Vietnam, like many of its South-East Asian neighbours, has some of the world's friendliest and welcoming people. In the northern regions locals still wear traditional dress, colourful and intricately woven, and in the paddy fields farmers can be seen by their conical hats dotting the landscape. In Hanoi and surrounding towns older men can often be seen wearing tin hats, reminiscent of the American War while women and school girls look elegant in their ao dai, a long tunic worn over trousers. Wherever you go in Vietnam you'll be greeted by smiley and generous people who will certainly make a big impact on your holiday.
