Experiences Walking and Trekking Walking in Europe Walking in Andorra

Walking in Andorra

Despite its size (468 square kilometres) Andorra has some of the finest mountain walking in the Pyrenees. The highest peaks are just short of 3000 metres and the average elevation is 2000 metres. Trekking trails in the valleys wind through groves of chestnut, walnut and oak, with pines on the upper slopes giving way to alpine meadows, which in early summer are covered with wild flowers. Rising above are the bare, rocky peaks of the Pyrenees, home to Pyrenean chamois, bears and wolves. The UNESCO World Heritage Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley accounts for 10% of the country’s total surface area and provides walkers with beautiful alpine scenery dotted with ancient stone walls and refuges, whilst the Sordeny Valley Nature Park boasts over 700 species of plants, flowers and herbs not to mention the lovely view from the picturesque glacial lake of Estanyo, at 2,350 metres.
