Experiences Walking and Trekking Walking in Europe Walking in Slovenia

Walking in Slovenia

Slovenia is a country boasting spectacular landscapes and lots of biological diversity. More than half of Slovenia is covered in forest, making it the third most forested country in Europe and it is also one of the most water-rich countries on the continent. Over a third of Slovenia is a designated protection area, the largest percentage in EU states. Bordering Italy and Austria, Slovenia shares a lot of their alpine scenery but is less visited by tourists making for a more peaceful trekking experience.

With all of this stunning scenery and over 7000 kilometres of well-marked trails, it is no wonder that hiking is very popular in Slovenia. Walking options range from easy short walks in the valleys and foothills to challenging trails in the high mountains with views of alpine peaks. Slovenia’s only national park, Triglav National Park includes Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps. The best time to visit for walking is late spring or early autumn.
