Country Information

Malawi is home to the uncommon sable, roan and nyala antelopes, as well as some of Africa’s rarely found birds. There are nine national parks and wildlife reserves dedicated to protecting the wildlife and their natural habitat. Walking safaris in the lowland reserves are a popular option.

In the south you’ll find Malawi’s oldest national park, Liwonde. Liwonde National Park is home to a number of elephants, as well as hippos, crocodiles, kudus, leopards, hyenas and fish eagles.

Majete Wildlife Reserve has been re-stocked with wildlife and is the only game reserve in the country where you can spot the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, hippo, lion and leopard).

Nyika National Park is a rolling grassland plateau that offers superb game viewing. It’s Malawi’s largest national park and has one of the biggest populations of leopard in Central Africa, as well as elephants, antelopes, zebra, bushpigs and the rare Denham’s buzzard. It’s also home to over 200 varieties of orchid that flower in the rainy season.

On a wildlife holiday in Malawi you’ll be able to enjoy great game viewing, beautiful and varied landscapes as well as the warm hospitality of the local people.
