Wildlife Trips in Guyana

Guyana is a nature lover’s paradise, boasting one of the largest unspoiled rainforests in South America. Over 70% of Guyana’s natural habitat remains pristine containing a huge diversity of wildlife including rare species such as giant river otters and harpy eagles, the largest and most powerful raptor in South America.

Birders will especially love Guyana; there are 1600 bird species, the most famous being the Guianan Cock-of- the-rock. There are also 1263 known species of amphibians, mammals and reptiles, just over 2% of these are endemic so you won’t find them anywhere else. The Kaieteur Falls region especially contains one of the highest levels of endemic species found anywhere in South America.

Jaguars are elusive but Guyana offers one of the best chances of seeing one in the wild anywhere in the world. Other large mammals such as tapirs, bush dogs and giant anteaters can also be found in Guyana.
