What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

This trip was one of nostalgia for me as I used to live in southern Germany and spent many weekends exploring the Austrian Tyrol. I was amazed at the number of local people Franz, our guide, knew - even the shepherds in the huts at the top of the mountains!

Tour Leader Name

Franz and Simon

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Because this was the very first tour, we had two leaders, Franz the local guide and Simon from the Explore Alpine HQ. Franz's local knowledge was unbelievable - not surprising I suppose as he was born and bred in Alpbach!

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Although this tour is rated easy to moderate, this was more because of the lengths of the walks than the severity. For an average walker, an excellent tour. Don't worry about the food - excellent all round from the coffee and cakes to evening meals. Be prepared for changeable weather!

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

The hotel (owned and run by our guide) was pitched exactly right for the tour and Franz, his wife and son were extremely friendly and welcoming. We all slept well after the numerous helpings of schnaps. As many walks were geared around local transport - timing of the walks was sometimes difficult.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

"Alpbach really is a lovely place to stay for a week. Walk to Zireiner See. Including the Sondwennjoch chair lift. Circuit of Gratlspitz. I walked everyday including the free day and enjoyed all of it a lot. The group was excellent and a good size (10 persons). Great food in Alpbach. Friendly people. 5 included meals at Hotel Post pretty good. Hotel Muhlbachhof. I felt very safe and at home there. Breakfast nice and good coffee. Friendly family hotel. Excellent guides. Thanks Franz and Simon."

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

"Eat Tiroler Gröstl Bring waterproof coat, trousers and proper walking boots. Check your travel insurance covers you for above 2000metres. Some don’t."

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

The tour was completely new (this was #1) and the weather was very mixed with low cloud and lots of rain. This could have been a disappointing trip but it was not. Despite the weather we walked everyday and completed the itinerary minus one of the high climbs (the cable car was not running due to the weather). We also sat down on the last day and Simon and Franz asked for feedback on the tour and how things could be tweaked I felt this was a useful exercise. I rated the holiday 7/10 as I thought the location, walks, views, food, hotel , guides all great. With some tweaks after the feedback and kinder weather it could be higher. Recommended.
