Our Response

We have spoken to our Operations Manager regarding your concerns about the drop on the way to the cave, the weather and the lack of handrails on one of the walks. They have advised that in these situations we would rely on the Tour Leader’s local knowledge and expertise to assess the situation, and decide whether or not there was a risk.  We have a great number of trails that have drops, sheer or otherwise and different people react, as you can imagine, in different ways.  If we do get a lot of comments on the drops then we would consider adding a note to the tour notes saying that it wasn’t suitable for vertigo sufferers, as yet this hasn’t been the case with this tour

Please review your overall experience and what your highlights were

The North is stunning and this and the food and drink were the highlights. For me this was not a walking trip. The itinerary tries to cover too much ground in a country with very poor communication routes. Had I wanted to sit in a bus for a week then I would have booked the discovery tour.

Our Response

We’re sorry to hear that you were a little disappointed with your tour leader, Erinek. We do expect our tour leaders to take the whole group’s needs into consideration regarding walking pace, and we have reminded him of this.  We were a bit surprised about the bus comments as post tour feedback for this departure was that the tour was well balanced between walking and traveling.  We do of course log all customer suggestions for itinerary alterations and, if your suggestion is offered by a number of other customers, of course we would consider changing the timings.  But to date, feedback has been enthusiastic for the manner in which the days are currently organised.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The visit to the Thethi Valley was spectacular and thank heavens it comes at the end of the tour! I could have spent much more time here. All the roads are unmetalled so a change of tour bus in Skodher was necessary. Unfortunately, perhaps, they are metalling the long zigzag road up to the pass so this could bring in more visitors. I really hope the rest of the route in is not similarly treated as the Albanians seem to have no planning restrictions and ugly buildings and half-built buildings are already there and easier access will ruin it quickly. The guesthouse is beautifully sited but the facilities for a large group were inadequate.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The time spent in Thethi.  It was beautiful and peaceful and so far away from the real world

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

To agree with earlier comments, the Thethi Valley stay was by far the best part of the tour. As we were a small group the simple accommodation did not pose any problems for us and it was a delight to eat in the garden of the guest house surrounded by the mountains and with the owner's chickens, cow and hay making activity in immediate proximity. The approach road is not sealed so travel to Thethi was by a sturdy small (non luxurious) minibus. My recommendation is to go to Thethi before the road is made up and improved so that it remains quiet with only limited visitors. The rest of the tour was a good introduction to Albania particularly the hills high above the sea with views to Corfu.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Thethi Valley: the challenging last stretch to the blue pond, the 'lock-in' tower and the associated stories, the moon rising over the mountainline as we ate our evening meal

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The stay in Thethi National Park - simply wonderful and probably the most remote area I have ever stayed in.  Any minor discomfort entailed in staying in what was effectively a hostel was more than made up for by the stunning scenery, the friendliness of the owners and the experience of having meals outside consisting of delicious home-produced food.  The walks were also excellent.
