This was a great taster tour of almost the entire length of Chile. Despite the several internal flights there was no sense of being rushed and the stopovers in San Pedro, Puerto Varras and the Torres de Paine national park were enjoyable, informative and their value was greatly enhanced by the knowledge and enthusiasm of the local guides. This also applies to our stay in Santiago and visit to Valparaiso, although in retrospect I think another day in Santiago either at the beginning or the end would have been worthwhile. I am well aware that I could have arranged extra days but did not have the foresight to do so. Our main tour guide was excellent. She issued clear information about travel plans, about things to look out for and about possible sources of difficulty - lack of water supply, expensive local food etc , allowing us to take steps to avoid sources of irritation. She dealt competently with various difficulties experienced by various members of our group - minor illness, delayed luggage, lost walking boots, lost mobile phone, difficulties with ATM etc. Overall she was a reassuring ,cheerful, enthusiastic presence who helped to show her country in a great light and who appreciated our enthusiasm for Chile.

This was an absolutely fantastic trip which included a huge range of diverse experiences starting with the most breathtaking views of the Atacama Desert at sunset with a pink light spreading over the red of the rocks then moving on to the gentle beauty and fertility of the Chilean Lake District and to remind you of where you were, surrounded by perfect volcanic cones topped with snow. We then moved on to Patagonia and the Torres del Paine National Park where we were expecting 80mph winds, horizontal rain and with a bit of luck, some good days! What we got was the most stunning weather with blue skies, no rain and no wind in the most amazingly beautiful part of the world. This trip surpassed all my expectations and at the end I had run out of adjectives! Well done, Explore, you've done it again!

This was an excellent way to see a great variety of Chile.
The only problems we had were with some of the flights. We would have liked to go to Easter Island but although it was shown as available online, when we tried to book we were told there were no seats available for the flight. We were disappointed that for our initial long flight from Madrid to Santiago we were not sitting together but several rows apart. When we flew from Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas our Tour Leader was suddenly put on an earlier flight without notice. Although we had been warned of a change of flight time for our flight back from Punta Arenas to Santiago had been changed, we assumed this applied to the whole group, not just us. We spent the last few days of the holiday uncertain on what was going to happen to us with various suggestions involving additional payments. In the end, the matter was resolved as well as could be expected.
The local guide at Atacama missed the way not once but twice, and so we had a much longer walk than necessary, when we were struggling with the high altitude, the terraine and the heat. However, the Atacama scenery and the Geothermal Field were spectacular.
The Lake District by Mt Osorno was a complete contrast with a lush green landscape, capped by the snow topped Mt Orsono Volcano. The next day we explored this further with great views from Mt Orsono, interesting forest by the Green Lagoon and finally the dramatic waterfalls on the River Paine. The Local Guide was excellent.
The final section in South Patagonia was the climax with the incredible scenery of the Torres del Paine with bicolour peaks and the three towers, as well as numerous Guanaco and Wild Flowers. We were surprised that the Local Guide took us up to the Condor Lookout in very strong winds. As experienced walkers we decided it was too dangerous to proceed above the Col and Emolina accompanied us down.

Such a varied itinerary with fantastic scenery wherever we went. From icebergs and glaciers to weird rock formations and geysers. There were so many highlights but seeing the sun rise through the steaming geysers was one of my best.

Atacama was the highlight............Patagonia was disappointing, mainly due to rain and very windy weather.

Having a glass of Chilean wine and nibbles by the van in the Atacama whilst watching the sunset and the full moon rise over the Andes mountains! Or, hiking up to bathe in hot pools. last, but not least, watching the geysers steam and bubble in the chilly dawn of the Atacama while a picnic breakfast and hot drinks were being prepared by our local guide and driver Em was a delight and certainly knew her job. very friendly, clear and efficient. She made the whole trip go smoothly and we would have followed her anywhere!
