What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Two lazy days travelling down the Mekong River, just watching the world go by. Also the waterfalls outside Luang Prabang in Laos, absoluteley stunning.

Tour Leader Name

Wit

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

One of the best Tour Leaders I've ever had. Nothing was too much trouble for Wit (his Thai nickname - we never got our tongues round his real name). He was there for us 24/7, he made sure we had his phone number whenever we had free time in case we needed him and he had a great sense of humour. It's no wonder he was in the finals of the Tour Leader of the Year awards in 2013, he is a real credit to Explore.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

The tour notes advise that it gets cool in the north on an evening and suggest you take appropriate clothing. We were travelling in November; it was very hot and warm clothing was definitely not needed. Take a torch - you'll need it in the hotel in Phnom Penh; the room lighting is appalling, the light was much better in the wardrobe where we sat to read!

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

The tour notes need updating. Vientiane is not a sleepy little town, it's more a busy bustling city with lots of motorised traffic. If we had one criticism it would be the amount of temples visited (apart from Angkor Wat).

This was a fabulous trip, really good value for money with lots of variety in terms of transportation and sights.  Our guide Wit was a gem, he made the trip so special and the local guides were also excellent. The trip down the Mekong was like going back in time, all rustic villages and water buffalo by the shore.   In Vientiane, you must go to the Buddha Park if you get a chance, we thought it was magical.  None of our group fancied it so we got a tuk tuk and sampled Laos country roads, potholes and all! And we had the park virtually to ourselves for an hour, before a coachload of Laotian schoolgirls arrived, squealing at the sight of tourists! Cambodia was another wonderful country, so moving to hear the guide at the Killing Fields speak about his missing father.  There was ample opportunity to have free time on the tour. The Koh Samet extension was unabashed luxury, not sure if that is normal knowing what we do about Explore accommodation (!) but it was most welcome at the end because it gave us a few days to absorb the experience.
