Packed itinerary from start to finish with amazing scenery, wildlife, cultures, people and markets. Have never taken so many pictures.

So many land border crossings that was an experience and thank goodness for our fantastic guide Miguel throughout the trip.

Guides knowledge of the wildlife ( which he spotted long before any of us), agriculture, history, politics, economics and culture was fascinating and he always had something to share with us.

Great food, great people and great journey.

Tour overall was really enjoyable with a great group, amazing countries and good tour leader and drivers.

A couple of things for feedback:

It did feel that not a lot was included in the price and all boat trips etc. were at cost (often quite a high cost given the countries we were in). Having worked and lived in Latin America for 6 years, I think US$30 for a 2 hour boat trip each is a bit steep. I understand about Tour Guide commission but perhaps something to reflect on.

Group meals. Tour Leader often suggested restaurants (noted as Explore approved apparently) for group meals. These were often expensive and sometimes not always great for me, I am a vegetarian. Again, I understand that TL's get free meals if they bring in a group but I did feel this was a detriment to the experience at times.

Guatemala City. We arrived late and TL said we shouldn't leave the hotel. We left early and didn't have a city tour. Hotel pretty retro and food extortionate and they had a captive audience. Why stop there at all as it is so near to Antigua??

Antigua hotel a bit far out of town and costs in taxis.

Felt the TL briefing at the start should have included health & safety and info about the countries such as not flushing toilet paper down the toilet and not drinking the water!! I know this but not everybody does and it is important to know for the environment.

Positive things. :)

El Salvador hotel and experience, amazing!
Both drivers - Carlos and Estouado, very good and felt in good hands.
Nicaragua whole experience very good and a great country to visit.
Guatemala to end was amazing (bat Guatemala City) and Antigua was beautiful.
Miguel was a good TL and worked really hard.

Many thanks for your feedback Joanne, I’m really glad you enjoyed your experience in Central America! I’ve noted your feedback, and will pass on the comments regarding meals and briefing to your Explore Leader. Regarding Guatemala City, I’ve been trying for ages to find an overnight stop between Chichicastenango and Copan that avoids the big city. Antigua is not possible because we would hit rush hour trying to drive through Guatemala City in the morning, which would take hours on an already long day. I’m going to keep persevering with this one, but please know that I’ve taken it on board, and I’m glad you had such a great time on your trip.

This was a brilliant trip led by an enthusiastic and efficient tour leader
It could be improved further in my view by the following:
Fewer craft markets, we were marketed out by the end of it and too many were selling the same stuff
Eliminate stop at Guatemala city because only there for 8 hours and did not see in daylight
Extra time in San Juan del Sur by the beach, perhaps full day rather than half?
I accept that changes to itinerary may not be possible due to range of reasons and would still say it was a fantastic experience

While the trip involves some long drives and early starts, it provides an amazing variety of experiences and is a perfect introduction to the diverse cultures of Central America.

Burlington, Canada
We had a very a fantastic overview of these five countries. Our tour guide Miguel was wonderful.....efficient, organized, social and well acquainted with all the areas visited and informed us of any possible difficulties such a fast paced tour could encounter.

All went smoothly and I feel my educational level of these five countries past and present has risen considerably since taking this tour.

A few changes I would recomend would be a) no rooms without windows b) breakfast to be included at hotels.

Overall we thought the tour was excellent. Other than two hotels the accommodation was good with very good hotels in Antigua, Suchitoto and Granada. The organisation by the guide and the additional bit of information which he provided just made the trip that much better. If you're ok with the all-on nature of the tour with the early mornings, travelling long distances and numerous border crossings then you can't help but enjoy this tour. The visits to Chichicatanango and Copan were excellent and some of the additional excursions such as the hike up(and run down) the volcano at Cerro Negra, the bird watching ,around Suchitoto and on Lake Nicaragua were well worth taking. It was wonderful to be able to see anteaters, sloths, caiman, monkeys and all the birds on and around the lake in Costa Rica.

I would thoroughly recommend this Explore trip. It was my 2nd trip with Explore and was equally professional and exciting to the 1st one I did. Also, I thought it was reasonable value for money. The guide on this tour, as on the last one, was excellent. I have a very favourable impression of this company.

The experience was great and Jose was brilliant too. Suchitoto was a highlight, the hotel and brilliant and great to relax.

Some of the journeys were long but you need to do them to see it all!
