What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Too many highlights to pick one! Walking the walls of Old Dubrovnik. People watching at Lapad beach. Montenegro day trip. A magical night in Split - sipping cocktails and eating pizza while watching fire dances and a local musician in the palace forum. Relaxing days on the boat. Swimming in clear waters - albeit cold! Visiting one beautiful island town after another. The water taxi ride, in the dark, in Hvar! Strolling the promenades each evening and enjoying lovely food and wine with our new friends.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Due to flight delays it was not possible for Marija to hold the pre-departure meeting. Because of this we didn't get to do the normal intros or discuss the day trips. She had to try and do this during dinner the next night, so unfortunately the group was a little unsettled from the start. Marija did a good job to try and get things back on track and keep everyone happy. She is a lovely girl ... perhaps a little shy for our group, who were predominantly older and had strong opinions.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

If you have the time, book a couple of extra days in Dubrovnik as there is so much to do and see. There is plenty to see in Lapad (the area close to the tour hotel). There is a lovely harbour one end and a pebble beach the other. The promenade is lined with great restaurants and nice little shops. Check out the More Hotel (located just past the swimming beach) and the cave bar! The Montenegro and Mostar day trips are really worth doing. You will need extra days if you want to do both. The boat is comfortable and well equipped but not air conditioned and you share bathrooms. There is plenty of time for relaxing and swimming before the boat moors up later in the afternoon. The ports are busy and often the boat is rafted to several others, so the chance to sleep outside is limited, we would not recommend carrying extra luggage for this. Be prepared for the itinerary to change with the weather. Relax, enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff! If this is not you ... then perhaps this is not the tour for you?

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

We have both travelled extensively but with limited time, we wanted the hassle taken away from going it alone in a non English speaking country. We have left Croatia feeling completely satisfied that we have seen and done everything we wanted to and more! We are sorry to read the above review, as we were on the same tour and yet did not seem to share the same experiences. We have fond memories of a beautiful country, the lovely Marija, the great crew on Stretan and the friends we made.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Bouncing back to the boat in a high speed water taxi, in the dark, in Hvar. Pure adrenalin and new hairstyles!

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Not up to the usual Explore tour leader standard. See my wife Linda's separate written report and complaints, which I endorse also.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Make sure that the tour leader delivers a tour in keeping with Explore's normally high standards and don't go on the boat "Sretan" unless you get confirmation from Explore that it was deep cleaned/fumigated after 6 July 2013, to remove the bed bugs which plagued our stay on board.

Our Response

Thank you for your feedback; we’ve written to your wife separately in response to her letter.  Marija had been to our tour leader training in Farnborough and had done well, so we were sorry to know that she didn’t meet customer expectations on this departure.  All the points mentioned in your wife’s letter and on some of the other questionnaires have been addressed, and if matters don’t improve, then we will not continue to use Marija’s services.  The bedbugs are a serious issue, and we can assure you they were dealt with promptly – we have a copy of the fumigation certificate here in the office.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

"The tour is packed with highlights, I very much enjoyed our free day in Dubrovnik, allowing us to do the city wall walk in the early morning (before the heat), do a boat trip and several more things at an easy-going pace.  I loved Split and our little extra stop at Sibenik. Plitvice is simply fantastic. The hotels were all very good.
The cruise part is relaxing, but almost a bit too lazy. Food on board was excellent."
