Please review your overall experience and what your highlights were

Holiday was amazing. The range of activities made it feel like we've had multiple holidays in one. Our particular favourites were the raft house, visit to school and overnight train.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The highlight for me was the Homestay. We had two days of being immersed in Thai life and never saw a foreigner in that time. Kneeling in a busy market street offering food to a Buddhist Monk was perhaps the most memorable moment. Certainly uncomfortable in more than a physical way!! But gave a much better understanding of the culture and how important Buddhism is to every day life. The quality and array of Thai dishes that we were given was amazing and the family even arranged for some Thai dancing and a puppet show at the house.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Every day had highlights - boating down mangrove swamps, fire-flies by night, elephant riding, fantastic cookery school, swimming outside our jungle rafts, homestay entertainment, visiting a local school to join in the activities for the day and exploring Bangkok by Tuk-Tuk.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

There were so many! In Bangkok the cooking class and I don't even like cooking at home but from shopping in the market for ingredients to cooking each dish it was all fantastic. The River Kwai was another, especially floating down the river in our life jackets, the elephants bathing and the food. Cycling and eating pomolos (like a sweet grapefruit) from the trees was also a highlight. The night train was a great experience and the variety of accommodation from pretty basic to very comfortable in Koh Samui meant we experienced a variety of Thai life. Visiting a school made us feel like royalty as the chilren were all around us smiling, shaking hands and giving out friendship bracelets. We showed them we could count to 10 in Thai and tought them to sing heads, shoulders, knees and toes! They also invited us to stay for lunch and we had great conversations with the children not having a clue what we were saying! Meeting Thai people on the homestay was great as they were so welcoming and buying turtles at the market to release into the water. The climb up to the top of the mountain on the boat trip from Koh Samui was another highlight even though it was hard work and sea kayaking on the same trip. The food in general throughout the holiday was also really good and incredibly cheap as were drinks. There was not one thing that I didn't enjoy.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

It's impossible to pinpoint one highlight. Everyday was filled with different exciting experiences which widened our eyes in wonderment. The temples were beautiful and fasinating, the street markets were hot, humid and busling and crazy driving tuk tuk's were fantastic fun, Bangkok was electrifying. The professional cookery class we attended means I can whip up a Pad Thai like a local now! Moving on to the beauty and serenity of the River Kwai. The raft lodges were stunning and to my 16 daughter's delight the local elephants came down to the river each morning to bathe, and she got to feed them! On to the homestay, I want to adopt my homestay family! Welcoming, discreet and waited on our every need, not to mention cooking endless supplies of delicious food, it was sad to leave. The night train was comfortable, safe and you wake to a view of the rainforest, quite something! Khoh Sok NP just stunning. Jungle lodges were clean, comfy and the cocktails here were out of this world! Koh Samui was the tropical paradise you hope for. The snorkelling and boat trips stunning! The tour is perfectly balanced, I wouldn't want to miss any of it.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Sharky was exceptional, he went above and beyond his job description making a great holiday, unforgettable. Everything was perfectly organised. He made sure all restaurants and homestay family knew of my chilli allergy (not the best allergy to have in Thailand), and any issue we had he sorted it. Sharky's local knowledge was endless, without it we would have just been sightseeing. He is patient, professional and now a great friend. The kids loved him as did we all. He has a great sense of humour and his impersonations are hilarious! Sharky even had a full breakdown of the "tip kitty" and what it was spent on, which he gave us to check and sign off. Thanks for everything Sharky!

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Go on this holiday! Don't expect 5* luxury but accomodation exceeded my expectation everywhere we stayed. Don't pack a water bottle, you wont need it. We were supplied with water all the time, or stopped to buy it. There were 19 on our tour - 6 families. We got on fantastically. Nobody was overbearing or demanding even with 10 children some as young as 9, despite the heat and travelling involved. So go willing and with patience. If you are worried about Homestay - as we all were - don't be. The people are lovely. You will be housed with others from you group. We split into 3 families at one and 3 at another. So you have people you know to talk to, we were sad to leave. We stuggled to get ATM's to work sometimes, but exchange rates were better out there so take some Sterling and change there. The most we spent was in the first 4-5 days. Take a big memory card for your camera, we took over 1100 photos and wished we took more!

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

I feel Explore have provided the best tour possible for Thailand. My experiences in the culture are overflowing. I really could go on and on, but your boxes don't allow me too!! This is my first Explore tour, but it definately won't be the last.
