Itineraries on some departure dates may differ, please select the itinerary that you wish to explore.

Day 1 - Drive to the coastal town of Teluk Kodek, fastboat to Gili Trawangan jetty. Horse and cart to Hotel Vila Ombak

The Gili Isles are a group of three tiny islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, made up of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. The literal meaning of Gili is 'small island.' Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three islands, 3km long and 2km wide. Blessed with picture postcard palm fringed soft white sand beaches and blue waters with coral reefs just offshore, it's an ideal spot to relax and unwind.

The trip starts in Lombok with pick-ups from Senggigi beach and Lombok International Airport. Heading north we travel along the Lombok coast with views of the Bali Sea to the port town of Teluk Kodek. Board a speed boat for the brief 15 minute journey to Gili Trawangan.

There are no cars on Gili Trawangan so on arrival we will be met at the jetty and transferred to the Ombak Sunset hotel on the other side of the island by horse and cart known locally as Cidomos.

Check in on arrival, the rest of the day is free to relax and explore the island.

Hotel Ombak Sunset

Hotel Ombak Sunset is located on the quite western side of Gili Trawangan, making it an ideal location for families and those looking to get away from it all and spend a few days relaxing after a busy Explore adventure holiday.

The hotel offers a choice of two resturants, three bars, a 45 meter swimming pool (the biggest on the island) and a day spa all set amongst beautiful tropical gardens, there is a 200 meter private beach just two minutes from the hotel gardens with a good choice of further bars and resturants on the beach. It also boasts some of the most stunning sunsets in Indonesia.

The rooms are spacious with an open air feel to them. All 152 individually decorated rooms feature plasma TVs with satellite channels, and you can enjoy free WiFi, coffee/tea makers, and free bottled water. The main restaurant serves international cuisine and is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner with tables set up close to the beach. Blue Coral Bar is the resort's own bar, serving drinks along with brunch and lunch.

Arriving at the resort is an adventure in itself, the hotels iconic yellow Speedboats run an hourly transfer to and from Lombok to the main harbour at Gili Trawangan which is approximately 1km from Hotel Ombak Sunset. As there are no cars on Gili Trawangan we suggest to take a cidomo (horse-cart) which will cost about Rp.150,000 (just over US$10).

Country information

Lying on the equator, Indonesia stays hot all year round, with daytime temperatures in the 80's (26°-28°C). Humidity is usually high. The wet seasons are roughly: Java- October to April; Bali- November to May; starting later the further east you travel. Nights are much cooler in the mountains than on the plains. Sea breezes normally keep the coastal strips of the islands from becoming too uncomfortable.

Budgeting and packing

The region is tropical (humid) and days can be very hot. Casual clothes are the most practical, whilst tight fitting garments should be avoided. Please bring long skirts, trousers and shirts to cover yourself fully in order to respect local sensibilities and please bear in mind that short shorts are generally unacceptable. If you have a white shirt or blouse please bring it along for the temple experience, but this is not compulsary. Light rain gear and/or an umbrella is excellent in sticky, tropical conditions. A sunhat is essential as is swimwear.

Casual footware, sandals are ideal.

Luggage: On tour

One main piece and a daypack. Remember, you are expected to carry your own luggage on and off the speedboat to the Gili Isles - so don't overload yourself.
