What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

This was my first trip with Explore and I will certainly go again. The tour was superbly organised and offered great trekking and a wonderful insight into life in China both city and countryside. The trekking with its stunning views across the Great Wall and the Panjiakou boat trip were my highlights. Our guide gave us a really good insight into life in China both now and in the past with his great commentaries. Beijing was equally memorable; The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, The Temple of Heaven and meeting the Chinese people were all so fascinating . Another aspect was the weather - it was beautiful, autumn colours along the wall produced spectacular views and the sun shined nearly every day. I really didn't want to come home!

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Our tour leader was brilliant; enthusiastic, knowledgeable, well organised, professional while being friendly and humorous. He went out of his way to make sure every one in the group was happy; he accommodated individual preferences and abilities and maintaining a sense of harmony in the group. He made the tour a great success for everyone, a really nice guy who was great at his job.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Some of the trekking is off the wall and like climbing, quite strenuous whilst other bits are walking on stone steps - I found a trekking pole really useful. Take a camera that you can hang round your neck so you don't have to keep taking your backpack off - there are so many opportunities to take pics. Be prepared for a range of food offerings sometimes it may not be to your taste - take a few cereal bars! Overall the food was marvellous but in rural areas there is less choice.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

The plumbing in Chinese hotels leaves a little to be desired - all part of the charm, but take a relaxed attitude with you and it will all come together eventually!

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Hard to say as there were so many - The Li River Cruise, the Light and Sound show, the city of Xi'an but walking the different sections of the wall was were unforgettable experiences.

Both were first class. Knowledgeable, friendly, good fun, well organised and ready to offer their advice at all of the many locations where we stayed.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Its very busy but tremendous fun. At 62 and not at my fittest to say the least, the walking was manageable but be prepared for high temperatures and humidity in August - so take your time and make sure you have hiking poles (buy them locally they are cheaper and good quality)

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

I hope that I shall be able to find another trip to China - there is so much to see and learn. Shamefully, I knew almost nothing about Chinese history and culture and can't wait to see and find out more

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

I really enjoyed walking on the wall and looking at the wonderful panaramic views.i enjoyed taking photos.what was an interesting moment for me looking at the old wall and the new wall that has been rebuilt.what was stunning and that to see the watch towers on the wall some in not bad condition and some falling apart.i thought the landscapes were amazing and how people can build such a wall thousands of kilometers long and over steep mountains.

Second attempt at this holiday and successful! Although surprised there were only 6 people (including us) it was the very best way to travel, just like being with your family. Peter the guide was tremendous because he loved his country and wanted everyone to share it. Everything was a highlight, but the best day was spent walking through the hills, eating wild cherries and loganberries, then hiding in a tower on the Great Wall in an immense thunderstorm. And all of the staff in the hotels, who were an experience in themselves. The best!

This has to be one of my favourite Explore holidays to date. It was the first trip I took on my own (I usually travel with my sister) and the experience was so liberating. The walking was hard in places, but so rewarding and the scenary was beautiful. It felt like a real adventure walking on the unrestored sections of the wall. I would do this trip again without question. (WG- 1st June 2009)
