How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Lovely tour leader. He very helpfully volunteered to demonstrate eating the local delicacy, 'balut' so that we didn't have to!

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

The Mt Pinatubo trek is mostly over loose gravel and can we wet. We crossed several streams. Suitable footwear is advised. A headscarf is also a good idea, as you get covered in dust in the open-sided jeeps on the way to and from the trek. The walk to the Sagada coffins is a much bigger deal than the trip notes and the local guide make it out to be. It's steep, and several of our party dropped out part way. (Also, you can actually see the coffins from the road!) Warm clothing is a must for Mount Data (literally the coldest hotel I've ever stayed in) and also useful for the accommodation in Banaue, which is quite draughty. Vegetarians might struggle with the local cuisine, which is meat and fish focused. There are fast food outlets and 7-eleven shops everywhere. When the tour leader suggests going to eat in a food court of a shopping centre, don't be put off by the sound of that. Food courts in the Philippines are amazing. WiFi is available at many of the hotels on this trip (lobby only, not in the rooms), mostly for free.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

Everyone on this tour had been long wanting to see the Philippines (and asking Explore to start a tour there), so our expectations were running high. Due to the limited road/hotel infrastructure on our route (frequent landslides necessitate frequent roadworks, winding mountain roads), and the distances between stops, this tour includes several 10-hour drives. Our bus was very spacious and comfortable and the drives passed quickly as we passed lovely scenery, but it did mean that we often arrived at our destination in the dark. There is (deliberately, and to my mind, bizarrely) no hot water in the beach hut rooms at Coco Beach, but you can request flasks of hot water. Personally, I would have preferred the beach stay to have been an optional extra, so that the 2 week tour could have been more comprehensive.
