Accommodation
- 8 nights Comfortable Hotel
Our accommodation varies from small boutique hotels to simple guesthouses and student accommodation apartments. Rooms can be small and at times facilities may be basic - most accommodations have hairdryers and TVs. Some don't have tea and coffee making facilities in the room but they are available free of charge in a communal area.
Many of the hotels are located away from shops and restaurants, and public transport in Iceland is scarce, so we'll dine in at the hotel restaurant most evenings. Iceland can be a pricey destination, but most menus have simple a la carte options and many have budget-friendly burgers or pizza choices. Most dietary requirements can be catered for but you should expect a limited choice.
Due to the recent considerable rise in tourism in Iceland, hotels are in high demand and so our accommodation is subject to change. This might occasionally mean we have to alter night stops with little or no notice. We're working closely with our team on the ground to minimise changes to accommodation.
Suitability
Is this the trip for you?
We've graded the pace of this tour as moderate and we'll be travelling fairly quickly to pack in Iceland's highlights.
To explore Iceland's unparalleled landscapes, we'll have some long driving days, however, the longer drives reward us with stunning views. We travel in a spacious 18-seater minibus and take plenty of comfort breaks. A smaller vehicle is used for groups under 5 people.
Our accommodation in Iceland varies from boutique hotels to guesthouses and student apartments. Please see the accommodation section for more information.
Most hotels are located away from shops and restaurants so we dine at the hotel most evenings. It's worth noting that options may be limited, and menus can be pricey (such is the nature of Iceland!).
With dining options in mind, you might be surprised by the cost of food and drink in Iceland - even at service station stops - remember to factor this into your budget. That being said, quality is usually superb.
Iceland's national parks and points of interest often have uneven, wet walking surfaces that can be quite slippery. You should be steady on your feet and have proper walking shoes.
The weather in Iceland is highly changeable. Expect everything from fog and rain to sun and snow - even in summer. Pack lots of layers and good waterproofs, as well as comfortable walking boots.
On this itinerary, your tour leader will also be your driver. While their main focus will be on the road, they’ll also share their knowledge of the sights, wildlife and places of interest you encounter along the way. We’ll make regular stops to explore key attractions, stretch your legs and soak up the scenery.
