Our tour leader was brilliant. Knowledgeable, helpful, well organised. The best!

The tour itinerary was a bit mediocre. Not the best trip I have done with Explore.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the above Explore holiday, we’re sorry that you were a little disappointed with the itinerary. As you’re aware, we had to make a late change to your itinerary because of the unrest in Kashmir and I’m sorry if this marred your overall impression of the trip. We usually receive great feedback about this departure, please contact, if you would like to discuss your experience in more detail. On a positive note, I’m delighted that you were so well looked after by your Explore Leader.

Sorab was good, my only criticism is that at high altitude he correctly advised us to walk slowly, then he would stride off and start talking before all of us had caught up, which was frustrating.
The cancellation of the Kashmir could have been handled better, it was very petty to say that if we accepted 2 of the options it would not include the transfer to the airport. It would also be good practice to the leader to carry a copy of your T&CS, so we could consider this before signing the deed of release, especially as the phones and internet were either down or so slow accessing them was very difficult.
There was one tour member who quite frankly was a disgrace to Explore and the rest of the group, it was her first Explore tour and I hope it will be her last. She was so demanding, disrespectful to the culture, rude etc

Hi Katharine, I was sorry to hear you were disappointed on with how we handled your cancelled Kashmir extension. In light of widespread violent protests we were concerned with for the group’s safety. To ensure your group got the best outcome we put three potential options together – one of which was a refund but keeping the flights and arranging free time in Delhi. As the group that selected this option would have all made separate arrangements keeping the transfers would have been logistically problematic and I apologise you felt this was less than generous. I will mention to Sorab about his pace and speaking to the group collectively.

Very enjoyable but you need to enjoy a road trip. The views are wonderful and the skill of the drivers amazing it was a truly unusual experience

The first part of the tour was fine apart from the altitude sickness. The guide was good and very personable. One of the party was clearly unaware that this was India and was expecting 'Even steps' and 4-5 star treatment. She was virtually blackmailing the guide into giving her extra special treatment. She was not physically up to managing the tour due to a disability. She refused to comply with dress code and photo rules in temples and gave the group a bad reception. I mention this as I am concerned for the guide in case she might make a complaint against him. The cancelation of the Extension, while I understand it, was very crassly handled and put most of the group in a very anti Explore position. The alternative of sending people already suffering altitude sickness to higher levels and suggesting further camping when most of us were exhausted was considered unacceptable by all apart from 2 out of the group. The tour was very interesting and we saw some truly wonderful sights.

This trip is definitely the "road less travelled". The local people and Indian tourists wanted photos with us. Some long journeys over spectacular mountain passes, and the temples and monasteries were beautiful. The 3-day stay on the houseboat on Dal Lake in Kashmir was so relaxing.
