The tour was fabulous. Everything I'd hoped for. I'm desperate to go back for the Toubkal winter trip!

The rest of the group were, however, novices at high altitude trekking/climbing and had possibly not understood the implications of the 'challenging' tag on the trip notes. Perhaps adding something like 'previous experience beneficial' might be appropriate?

Very worth while. Accommodation basic but certainly done the job. Food was impressive, both quality and quantity.

Sunbury on Thames
A excellent trip to take on the challenge of Mount Toubkal and enjoy the Moroccan culture of Marrakech and the villages along the trail. The walk down from Toubkal is challenging due to the scree. The hotel in Marrakech is good, camp site in a great position near to the huts to get water and the gite on the 3rd night a real treat after a long day of walking. The only issue was that after walking it was difficult to get comfortable sitting on the mats at meal times, small stools would have been less traditional but much more comfortable. Our guide was very knowledgeable kind and attentive to the group.

The tour was all I expected it to be and more! Due to its nature it compressed a lot into a very short space of time. My only comment was that I was left wanting more which is perhaps not a bad way to finish the holiday. I would consider adding an additional day or two at very little cost to unwind at the end. Definitely would recommend it and a challenge which gives you a real sense of achievement.

This was a trip of a lifetime!! I couldn't believe what was being offered for the price it cost! It was worth every penny! The group I toured with and the individuals I met were amazing and made it so enjoyable. The food we were provided throughout was more than we ever could have asked for, both in regards to quality and quantity. The itinerary day by day was outstanding, the hikes were long but were manageable. We were provided with a lot of rest breaks when needed and information to help us with the climb and a lot of down time at the end of hikes to eat, rest, recover and socialise. The accommodation was fantastic considering where we were, the only downside was the lack of sleep during camping as the cover sheet was flapping and keeping us awake, however this is a very minor concern. The hospitality was amazing at all times and I would like to give a special thanks and mention to Muhammed and Khalid who were outstanding tour guides and made the whole experience a hundred times better! I felt very safe and looked after throughout. I was also amazed by the amount they were able to do without eating or drinking!! On a personal note they are very friendly individuals, their understanding of the English language is excellent and I speak for the entire tour group when I say we would love for them both to visit London and see us all one day!

This was my first experience on a walking holiday and I have to say it has been amazing. The tour guide Mohammed Mazouz was fantastic.... Very accommodating and helpful. He was very entertaining and made many of us laugh. Because of the experience I had I will definitely be booking something similar again soon.
Great company, great tour guide, nice accommodation, great food. Just amazing :)

This was a well organised trip, good fun and reasonably priced. The Moroccan guides and other tour staff were excellent.

Toukbal was a challenging walk and certainly not to be underestimated, but if you're reasonably fit you shouldn't have a problem.

Having spent the last 30 years walking hills / mountains SAFETY is always the first priority on any expedition, but sadly this excursion lacked the very basics. no safety communications between the guides or the base camp. No safety equipment, no evaluation of the participants and their capabilities and why would you climb any snow covered mountain without crampons whether you thought you needed them or not? Overall amazing views of the Atlas Mountains which was poorly led.

We were certainly very concerned to read your review, SS, and I am sorry that you felt the trek was unsafe and poorly led. We’ve been in touch with our local team to discuss your points and we are confident that your safety was not compromised at any point during your ascent or descent on Toubkal.

In general, it’s appropriate to use crampons in deep consolidated alpine snow, not wet slushy snow where you can kick steps into the snow. We provided the previous group with crampons and 2 ice axes but they didn’t use them as the path was well used by trekkers. Lahcen, your Explore Leader, was aware that they left this equipment at base camp for your group as the leaders met half way.

Although there was some fresh snow overnight, it was soft and Lahcen felt that you didn’t need crampons for the ascent. We feel that the ascent was safe and your leader and assistant guide took their time to ensure your group climbed Toubkal using the safest route. This is why the ascent and descent took in excess of 10 hours. We know that other groups also completed the ascent with no crampons that day.

As you’d expect, mobile phone signal is limited on the mountain. There is a signal at the top of Toubkal and at the base camp and the distance between the summit and base camp is roughly 2km. In case of an emergency, the leaders and guides would arrange help from the refuge, which would take between 15 and 30 minutes. It’s worth me highlighting that the emergency procedures on Toubkal are well established and involve leaders or guides from all other groups in the area.

Please let me assure you that we only use well-trained, regular guides who are all qualified mountain guides under the Moroccan Mountain guide scheme. The guides have enough local knowledge to judge the climbing conditions and the appropriate equipment to use, they managed your ascent very carefully and everyone returned safely.

In terms of conducting an evaluation of the group, we make it clear that this is a challenging trek and each participant confirms that they are fit and able to fully participate. Our local leaders and guides are empowered to decline anyone they deem unable to do so. Unfortunately, a member of your group was unable to complete the ascent and we provided full assistance to ensure she was both safe and comfortable.

I do hope that you returned with some positive memories of your time in Morocco.
