What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Raft Hotel stay. Elephant sanctuary. Cycling around Sukhothai. Rice barge. Hellfire Pass/Death Railway. Koh Racha Yai snorkelling. Hornbills at Koh Hai. Emerald Cave.

Tour Leader Name

Wit (north) Sharky (South)

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

They were both excellent. Very different in style. Wit is very theatrical and energetic. Sharky more laid back but a very wry sense of humour. I couldn't find fault with either of them.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Make sure you take a torch for the Jungle Raft Hotel as there is no electricity, just kerosene lamps after dark. I would also take my own mask and snorkel next time for the second part of the trip. They do provide them but having your own would save having to mess about finding one that fits properly and you can snorkel at places where they aren't provided like Koh Hai Resort. Oh, and I would definitely take an underwater camera with me for the snorkelling.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

On Day 14 rather than getting back to Bangkok at around midday and having the afternoon free in Bangkok, I think the time would be better spent and much more memorable to have stayed for a couple of hours at the Sai Yok Nai waterfalls and allowed time for swimming there. I think it would have been good at Sukhothai to have the option of hiring the bicycles the evening before and those who wished could have got up early and cycled along to the temples to maybe catch the sunrise and get there with no-one else around. I think it would have been magical there around 6am. In the tour notes under "Budgeting for your tour" it might be worth pointing out that this tour (OST) comprises two separate trips and therefore two trip kitties are expected.

Our Response

Thank you for your review. I’m pleased you enjoyed your holiday to Thailand and we appreciate your kind comments about your tour leaders for both trips.

It was interesting to read your suggestion about hiring bikes at Sukholhai. I have passed your feedback onto our Product Manager. I’m sure this is something that can easily be arranged with our local agent.

Regarding the tips kitty for this tour, we do combine the tipping figure for the two tours and this is noted on our tour notes. I appreciate that this could be made clearer so customers are aware that the amount is the total figure required for both trips; our Operations Manager is currently reviewing this.

A very comrehensive tour of Thailand. If you like temples then this is the one for you. On the first part of the holiday we had about 4 days of temple veiwing and don't get me wrong - this was very interesting, but was at least one day too much. The highlights of the first part for me were the war cemetary at Kanchanaburi (don't forget a tissue as it's very emotional ), the bridge over the River Kwai and the raft house stay on the Kwai. The second part the highlight has to be the scenery - simply stunning.Don't forget very strong deet insect repellant, high factor sunscreen and aloe after sun, even though you are careful in the sun you can still get burnt. I used 100% deet and only got a couple of insect bites but some people were bitten a lot even though they had insect repellant on because they didn't cover up after sunset. Also flip-flops are a good idea even if you don't normally wear them because you have to take you shoes off when entering quite a few places (not just temples).
