What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

It's difficult to choose just one, but it's probably taking "the road less travelled" to descend from the High Place of Sacrifice in Petra, getting fantastic views of the Nabbatean facades and visiting some of the lesser-known wonders of the city. Other contenders included admiring the stunning exterior of the Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount in Jerusalem, enjoying a mud treatment at the Dead Sea and visiting the Israel Museum. Fantastic Holiday, but a few niggles.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

If I had to pick one memorable moment, it would be seeing the spectacular scenery of Wadi Rum for the first time. But walking in the hills around Petra and the religious sights of Jerusalem are obviously massive highlights.

An excellent itinerarry with every day bringing something new.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

So many - wandering through Petra; sleeping under the stars, a jeep trip with a knowledgeable guide, and a camel ride in stunning Wadi Rum; floating in the Dead Sea (it is weird!) Scuba diving in the Red Sea (arranged personally by our guide); looking out over the Sea of Galilee from the site of the Sermon on the Mount (lovely to be amongst trees and flowers); view of the Dead Sea from Masada (very dramatic). These stand out most in my memory.

A wonderful holiday with so many different experiences.  Don't hesitate to go - we felt perfectly safe throughout.  The itinerary was fantastic, the Jordanian, Israeli and Palestinian people were very friendly and we had a top class Jordanian guide.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

First class - nothing was too much trouble or difficult for him - kept us continually informed about changes to the tour, options every day, costs - collected bulk tip from us all right at the start of the holiday so we could budget easily. Brilliant.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Food, drink & taxis in Jordan are cheaper than in the UK so once you've got yur flights and accommodation paid for you won't need to spend a lot of money. Expect to use taxis in Amman & Petra - very hilly.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Masada - Photos and videos don't do justice to this astonishing ancient site overlooking the Dead Sea.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Very good - didn't always explain clearly what was happening the next day and what options we had. Also unlike our Jordanian guide, he didn't collect bulk tips from us in advance which meant extra expense for us all and hassle collecting money from the group every day - it was complicated by the extra 3 or 4 guides we had on our day in Jericho/Bethlehem.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Avoid Bethlehem unless you're a Christian Pilgrim.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

"Tour Notes - Needed more information before we travelled - e.g. Israeli border delay because we had not been told what kibbutz we were staying in. Notes didn't make clear the dates and locations of overnight accommodation. Jericho/Bethlehem day - only disappointment - Too many tour guides that day and the Greek one was rude and assumed we were all on a pilgrimage - embarrassing when we were told to sing Silent Night twice in the Church of the Nativity - he didn't seem to want to read our body language! Also did not enjoy the feeling of being 'trapped' in a shop for nearly an hour after lunch in Bethlehem - the shop doors were closed on us and our guide disappeared. "

Our Response

Thank you for your feedback. With regard to your comment about the Jericho day, there is always an issue here with the fact that Jewish guides are not allowed to enter Jericho, and our groups have a local guide there. We’re following up why there should have been an extra one in Bethlehem; he certainly doesn’t sound appropriate, and we have asked that he not be used again. The shop issue is also unacceptable, and has been addressed with our local staff as a matter of urgency. We’re aware of this as a potential problem in many countries, but we hadn’t heard of it in Israel before.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

So many - the biblical sites in Israel, the Dead Sea, snorkelling on the Red Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum.  However the heavy rain overnight in Wadi Rum, our attempts to waterproof the tent with plastic (which failed) and the pools of water within the tent would probably rate as unforgettable.   The green haze over the sand the next morning as the plant life appeared was probably something few groups see.
