This trip felt like many holidays in one. It encompassed city and rural locations; the highlands and the lowlands; historic sites and awe inspiring scenery. Not least was the opportunity to meet the local people and appreciate many different ways of life. The varied travel options types of accommodation enabled us to maximise our time and visit locations when they were less busy. Of the many highlights several remain with me for different reasons. Santa Catelina Convent in Arequipa was unlike any religious site I have visited for its sheer scale and fascinating history; the Cruz del Condor afforded us the spectacle of 17 condors riding the thermals; Machu Pichu surpassed my expectations and a visit to a family in the Amazon was an unexpected and memorable experience. Our group was fortunate in that we got on well and had an excellent tour leader. Our guide in the Amazon was very good too.Julio was excellent. He created a positive vibe amongst the group, managing everyone's expectations. He was caring and considerate, extremely knowledgeable and fun. His organisational skills were excellent and his ability to speak Quechua was invaluable in dealing with many local people. He was full of good ideas for restaurants and alternative trips. Nothing was too much trouble and his professionalism and enthusiasm contributed to the success of the tour
