- A true trip of a lifetime and one as a single female has really helped to shape future holidays for me.
The safari itself was outstanding; to see at close hand so many wonderful animals in their natural habitat was a delight.
The various lodges we stayed in were wonderful - especially the staff, and the fabulous food they prepared for us each day. I've never tasted so many good soups!
I actually feared staying in the tented lodges on my own, but found to my amazement that these were the best places to stay, and I learned very quickly to enjoy the sounds of the animals nearby each night. I felt totally safe and that gave me the comfort I needed.
I was also shocked how little water 20 litres is for a shower: I'll think long and hard in future when taking a long one how precious water is.
Our tour guides, Isaac and Banu were outstanding; clearly their desire was to give us a holiday that we could dream about for years. Their knowledge of the area, the animals, the roads (which is really important as they can be hairy in parts) was exemplary. They were really good company and we thank them dearly for giving us a wonderful holiday.
The only thing I'd personally change is the first two nights in Zanzibar - it's a long drive after the flight, and you can have something equally as good nearer the airport. I wasn't that impressed with the hotel either but the views were outstanding.
