I would recommend this tour, and particularly any Japan tour with Mark as tour leader; his knowledge and enthusiasm were second to none. We particularly enjoyed the chance to try different Japanese culinary styles with Mark. The "sevens" for accommodation reflect the (typical) small hotel rooms at some locations (eg Nagano) and the original scheduling of the visit to Otaru the day after the lantern festival there had ended. Fortunately, Mark was able to rearrange our schedule to accommodate a visit on the last day of the festival.

The Sapporo snow festival is one of the best reasons to visit Japan in winter. This trip takes that in, but offers so much more. From sailing an ice breaker, to spying maikos and geikos in Gion, to ogling snow monkeys in their "outdoor jacuzzi", don't see how you could pick a highlight. Trip really is packed in with a lot and at times feels rushed, made an effort to stay and linger which caused us to miss group meals, but worth it. Be adventurous about the food; it will be regional, seasonal, and at times totally unfamiliar--but when in Japan do as the Japanese, and feast!
