4.5 Liz Mulgrew, 13/08/14

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Pretty much all of it! But, if pushed, probably any one of several very close elephant encounters by our car/jeep, seeing a large bull elephant defending a water hole against a herd of approaching buffalo, or an incredible 15 minutes of acrobatics from a Southern Right whale at Hermanus.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Too many memorable moments to list here! Seeing Southern Right whales up close in Hermanus was amazing and profound. Also the whale watching tour from Plettenberg. Seeing a very large herd of elephants also up close, and watching the adults protect the baby by the watering hole! Plus, of course, all the other amazing creatures on safari; giraffe, warthog, zebra, lion (up close and personal!), stunning birdlife, porcupine, hippo, rhino, the list goes on! Spectacular scenery all the way along the garden route. Delicious food and wine. The accommodation was on the whole extremely good, from colonial buildings to town hotels.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Granville David was outstanding. Funny, informative, caring, accomodating, entertaining. Fantastic with the children too.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Make sure you take spare memory cards for your camera! The flight is long and it's worth taking a neck support pillow to help with sleeping. If it's wildlife, and in particular whales, that you're interested in then take a book detailing behaviour and what it all means.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

This for me was the holiday of a lifetime, and has left so many wonderful memories. I want to visit the country again for sure. We made some friends whilst we were there (3 families and one of them came from the same town as us, how's that for coincidence). We will be using Explore again in the future as it has been perfectly arranged from beginning to end.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

It would be hard to choose between the proud lioness coming round the bend in the African dusk, just inches away, walking the beautiful coastal routes, meeting elephants or diving with sharks.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Excellent, he and the driver, Wayne, were indefatigable, cheerful and great fun.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Lots of highlights but best family moments were: dune-running on the Robberg Peninsula, surfing at Plettenberg Bay, feeding and riding elephants at Knysna, climbing Table Mountain, seeing lions at Schotia and enjoying a Christmas day with a difference at Addo Elephant Park.
