This trip, on a small ship taking 54 passengers, was full of interest and very busy. We left Iceland to sail up the Greenland East coast then on to Svalbard. The ship, the Polar Pioneer, is a converted research vessel and comfort levels are adequate but by no means luxurious. The food is well prepared and good. The ship's crew and the other staff are very helpful and friendly although some of them have limited English. Being a small vessel does have advantages in that we could access places larger vessels could not but the vessel moves somewhat in the rougher seas. We explored up the fjords of the north eastern coast of Greenland using inflatable craft to get to shore. Fantastic scenery and wildlife and some wonderful walks were had. Each day we generally had two excursions to shore on the zodiacs. Landings were generally easy but wet. Anyone suffering from Sea-sickness needs to be prepared with adequate remedies. We were very lucky with the weather which was mostly sunny but cold. The wind off the glaciers could drop the temperature by several degrees and sitting in a zodiac for a couple of hours requires plenty of layers of warm clothing. The two day crossing over to Svalbard was calm and the ice and sunsets wonderful. This is by no means a "Holiday" but an adventure and was quite tiring at times. However, we had a fantastic time and I would do it again tomorrow. Prepare well and do some research and you cannot but enjoy this.

Staff, crew and leaders were fantastic. A relaxed and safe atmosphere on board the boat which is about the right size - any bigger and the family atmosphere I think would be lost and logistics of getting on and off wouldn't be a pain . Amazing scenery, just got better and more amazing each day. I would recommend the kayaking on this trip.
