Please review your overall experience and what your highlights were

Come on this tour if you like minibuses! Way too much driving time, sometimes leaving only short periods for superficial visits (e.g. travelling 8:30-2pm to get to Galle, leaving only time to buy lunch there before having to move on; snatching just 30 minutes' free time in Kandy, and so on). The Mud House, Sigiriya, the Dhoni and the Maldives drum concert were really memorable highlights however.

Our Response

We’re sorry to hear that you were a little disappointed with your tour leader Amara and the amount of time driving on this trip. We are aware that some of the visits were cut short due to traffic delays and time constraints. However, we also understand that Amara did underestimate some of the timings – we have made sure to address this with him.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

There were so many highlights of this whistle top tour but the views from the top of Sigiriya were spectacular, seeing vast amount of elephants in their natural habitat, tea plantations high up in the mountains, experiencing the different terrains and climates around the country. My son said that the most memorable moments for him was the elephant safari and riding one ride in Habarana. Seeing his dad being given a shower by an elephant, priceless! Also visiting the turtle hatchery and holding a 2 day old turtle.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Priya was absolutely amazing, he worked tirelessly to ensure the tour ran like clockwork. Nothing was ever too much trouble. During the drives from one town to another he gave us a real insight into the country telling everything that he possibly could from the history of the country, legal system, welfare, education, your name it he knew it. He responded to the different needs of the Group to enhance our enjoyment of the holiday. Everything just worked, all thanks to him!!

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Be prepared for a few long drives, so ensure that that you have plenty of things to keep the kids occupied.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

This is a busy tour, however by the time you leave you really feel like you experienced and seen everything the country has to offer. For me travelling on Explore tours with like-minded people with a sense of adventure really makes the trips.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

There were many moments that made the tour memorable, from snorkeling with turtles, to watching the sun go down over Galle. But the memory that has lasted for me is everyone from the tour playing beach cricket as the sun went down in front of the hotel in Hikkaduwa. The teams including competitive dads, mums who had never played cricket, kids chasing the ball into the sea and a coach driver who was better at cricket than he let on! The locals stopped to watch, lack of light stopped play, and a dip in the hotel pool before dinner made it a perfect night!

Sarath

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Sarath was an excellent guide. He had the right level of humour and local knowledge on the tour to keep everyone interested and engaged. He explained the days highlights well, and always had extra detail to add if people wanted to carry on and find out more. The engagement with the kids was great, keeping them interested in the activities and making sure they were always enjoying the trip. A special mention must go to the bus drivers, who were also really helpful, friendly and great fun! They really bonded with the kids and you really felt safe with extra adults keeping an eye on them.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

It is hot and sticky, so keep the kids drinking lots of water.Take a good camera for you, and a basic one for the kids, there are endless opportunities to take fantastic photos, our kids loved taking photos in the markets and in the national parks. Get the kids used to curry before you go! Ours now love curry - it's not hot but more curry in 2 weeks was consumed than probably the previous 2 years! There was always other options to curry and rice, but you sometimes need to ask as a curry buffet was normally offered. Sometimes kids just want a sandwich at lunch! Local shops stock great biscuits, so it was fun trying different packets to keep kids going during the day. Roadside corn on the cob was also a great snack. And finally take a tennis ball for beach cricket :)

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

Overall a very well run holiday. Good choice of hotels, interesting days out, well paced for kids. Now back to the website to look out another adventure!
