Itinerary

Itineraries on some departure dates may differ, please select the itinerary that you wish to explore.

Day 1 - Fly to Casablanca

Depart from the UK. You'll be met on arrival in Casablanca and transferred to your hotel.

Accommodation: Moroccan House Hotel(or similar)

Standard Hotel
None
Day 2 - Drive via Rabat to Fes

Rabat was established as the capital of the French protectorate in 1912 and since independence has served as the capital of a modern Morocco. Rabat's history stretches back as far as 8BC, when settlers arrived in what is now the Chellah area, a district that went on to become a prosperous Roman town, before being transformed by the Merinids into a cemetery. Your visit will take in something of the city's historic heart, exploring the area around the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, before wandering through the engaging Kasbah des Oudaias, originally a fortified town that is now infused with a distinctly Andalusian flavour. In the afternoon you'll transfer to Fes.

Accommodation: Hotel Nouzha(or similar)

Standard Hotel

Day 3 - Morning city tour

This morning you will have a guided tour of ‘the artisan capital of Morocco’. Taking in the mosques and souks of the Fes el Bali (Old Fes) on foot affords the ideal opportunity to explore the souks that line the backstreets of the town, wandering past aromatic spice stalls and taking in the opulent majesty of the 14th century Attarin Medersa, whose intricate decoration and elegant design makes it one of the city's most captivating medieval colleges. One of the city's most impressive monuments is the spectacular Medersa Bou Inania, the 14th century Merenid structure built by the Sultan Abou Inan, whose exquisite carvings and tile work is considered amongst the most exceptional examples of its kind anywhere in Morocco. The afternoon is then free to enjoy at your leisure what is in essence one of the most engaging, and certainly one of the most undiminished, medieval cities anywhere in the Arab world.

Accommodation: Hotel Nouzha(or similar)

Standard Hotel
Wi-Fi available
Breakfast
Day 4 - Meknes, Volubilis and Moulay Idriss

Enjoy a guided tour of the major highlights of Meknes, including the old granaries of the Heri es-Souni and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail himself. In spite of Ismail’s seemingly unquenchable blood lust and far from benevolent treatment of his subjects, the sultan still seems to be held in high regard and his tomb is something of a place of reverence even today amongst a people who still see his rule as Morocco’s Golden Age. You'll discover much of the city's beautiful architecture and the busy medina, where you can try your bartering skills in the markets. From here we head next for the nearby ancient site of Volubilis – the capital of the Roman province of Mauritania Tingitana. The detailed mosaics here are still intact and the site gives a good idea of the layout of provincial settlements. En route back to Fes you will stop for a visit at the Muslim pilgrimage town of Moulay Idriss, named after the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson.

Accommodation: Hotel Nouzha(or similar)

Day 5 - Drive to Marrakech

Departing Fes for Marrakech, the scenic journey stops in the Berber market town of Azrou, set in deep in the Middle Atlas this slow-paced town has stunning views of the surrounding meadows and cedar forests. You'll also pass Beni Mellal, lying at the foot of Mount Tassemit it is an important agricultural town. Your journey continues, arriving in Marrakech in the late afternoon.

Day 6 - Morning city tour

Morocco's famous 'Red City', Marrakech is the spiritual heart of the country, a cultural melting pot of the mountain Berbers and the desert peoples of the south. Blessed with some of the most stunning architecture in Morocco, its mix of tradition, colour and history makes for a fascinating guided walk through its medina this morning. You'll wander through its bustling souks and pay a visit to the remarkable setting of the Bahia Palace, a fusion of Moroccan and Islamic styles that was intended to be the greatest palace of its time, you'll also see the Saadian Tombs and Koutoubia Mosque.  This afternoon has been left free for you to explore at your leisure.

Accommodation: Riad Celia(or similar)

Day 7 - Free day

Today has been left free to continue exploring this amazing city. You can wander past vendors selling doughnuts and fried grasshoppers, meander through native markets where Muslim women, their hands and feet dyed with henna, call out to sell their wares, and enjoy the sounds and the smells of the exotic. Perhaps you will prefer to take time to enjoy more of the remarkable Medina, haggling for a bargain or two, or simply sitting at one of the local cafés and watching the street tableaux unfold before you. If you are after something more active you could take a trip to Imlil or Ouirgane in High Atlas in the High Atlas Mountains for a short hike in the stunning surroundings.
