Day 1 - Fly to Amman

Depart from the UK. You'll be met on arrival in Amman and transferred to your hotel.

Standard Hotel
Wi-Fi available
Day 2 - Visit Jerash

Your introduction to Jordan’s fascinating blend of history, architecture, religion and culture begins with a short 30 mile journey north of the capital to the ancient city of Jerash. Populated for over 6,500 years, the city's golden age was in Roman times when it was conquered by General Pompey and became one of a confederation of ten important Middle Eastern cities, known as the Decapolis League. Now, because of the way it has been preserved in sand before its excavation last century, it is widely acknowledged as one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Walking around the colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres and the chariot-racing stadium, it is easy to imagine Roman life carrying on around you. All this is just the tip of the iceberg - it is estimated that only about 10% of city has been uncovered. Afterwards, transfer back to Amman for the night.

Accommodation: Ream Hotel(or similar)

Standard Hotel
Wi-Fi available
Day 3 - Drive to Petra via Madaba and Mount Nebo

This morning you head south to Madaba - a town with a strong Christian heritage and aptly dubbed the 'City of Mosaics'. Home to hundreds of Byzantine-era mosaics, the most famous of these is the 6th century map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Created with two million pieces of vividly coloured local stone, it is believed to be the oldest surviving map of Palestine. You will also stop off at Mount Nebo - a site of Christian significance due to its reference in the Old Testament as being from where Moses saw the Promised Land. On a clear day, you too can see out across the border to Israel from its summit. Your journey continues along the 5000 year old King’s Highway to Petra.

Accommodation: Petra Palace Hotel(or similar)

Standard Hotel
Day 4 - Visit Petra

Abandoned centuries ago, Petra was the rock cut stronghold of the Nabateans. Surrounded by imposing mountains and approached through a deep, narrow cleft in the rocks known as the Siq, it is a unique and unforgettable place. Enhanced by the play of light and shadow, the sights are an altogether overwhelming experience. In the morning you walk through the Siq and enter this lost city, sighting the famous temple façade of the Treasury as you approach. A guided orientation tour which will take you to some of the key areas, you then have the rest of the day to explore in your own time.

Accommodation: Petra Palace Hotel(or similar)

Standard Hotel
Day 5 - Free day in Petra

Spend a second day exploring the archaeological wonders of Petra. Observe countless tombs, baths, temples and intricate rock drawings, as well as a 3000-seat open-air theatre. Beyond the Treasury the main route passes tombs, dwellings, temples and the central city area, with its colonnaded Roman street. However, two of Petra’s most impressive sights are to be found above the valley floor. The Monastery (Ad Deir) is one of Petra’s best preserved monuments and the long steep climb to get there is well worth the effort. Equally stunning is the ‘High Place of Sacrifice’ on the summit of Jebel Madhbah, which affords magnificent views in all directions.

Accommodation: Petra Palace Hotel(or similar)

Day 6 - Drive to Wadi Rum and explore!

Head for the desert and follow in Lawrence of Arabia's footsteps to Wadi Rum, only you'll explore by four-wheel drive! The desert is another world, inhabited by the nomadic Bedouin people for generations. Here, looming mountains and sand dunes rise from the desert floor, creating a wonderful backdrop. You'll travel through a landscape of sandstone mountains and white and pink coloured sands. Before your night under the starry sky, enjoy traditional Bedouin hospitality around a campfire and you may be lucky enough to witness a spectacular desert sunset.

Accommodation: Mohammed Mutlak Camp(or similar)

Standard Campsite
Breakfast Dinner
Day 7 - Relax at the Dead Sea

After a night under the desert stars, your journey continues to the Dead Sea. Flanked by mountains, the scenery provides a perfect backdrop as you float at the lowest point on earth. If you wish, indulge in a pampering massage with nourishing Dead Sea mud which reputedly rejuvenates mind, body and spirit!

Accommodation: Ramada Resort, Dead Sea(or similar)
