What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The highlight of the tour was the visit to Petra. We loved walking through the Siq and the first glimpse of the Treasury. The bustle of Petra made it seem like a real city that still breathed life and the children enjoyed exploring the caves and tombs and the climb to the Monastery. Another quieter day of exploration by ourselves allowed us to meet with the Bedouin women and learn a little about their lives today. Floating in the Dead Sea was fun for all as was the camel trek and camp.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

There were many favorite moments of our tour and I loved floating in the Dead Sea and snorkelling. I guess my biggest surprise though was how interesting - and big Petra is. It is awesome and for kids it is a massive playground where you are not constantly being told - don't touch and don't go there.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Our tour leader was brilliant. He ensure that the kids didn't have an information overload at the historical sites and he was an inspiration to the kids. They all loved him and he really was able to engage with the whole group at every level.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

There is such a great variety of things to so on this tour it really does have something for the whole family. There is perfect balance of history, activity and fun for all the family. The Dead Sea was a favorite with the adults - although the sea was a little too salty for most of the kids and they were not too keen on the mud. However, when it came to the swimming pools, it was difficult to get them out!

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

We had a great fun family holiday. It is perfect for a half term break and even though there were 22 in the group we all had a great time. The food in Jordan - being a mum of a very fussy eater - was fantastic and there was always plenty of choice and 'normal' food that all kids will enjoy.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

There were so many and the family could not agree. For Lena it was Petra with its astonishing architecture and breathtaking (literally) walks. For young Tara it was the Dead Sea, not just floating in the brine but enjoying time with the other kids in the swimming pool. For me, it was probably Wadi Rum and the 2 hour camel ride through the desert following the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Mo was excellent, in particular with the kids. Despite having a tour of 22 to guide he manage to build a rapport with each of us and by the end of the tour was a friend to all. He was always prepared to go the extra mile and even helped get us enjoy an extra day in Amman.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

Look at alternatives to the Royal Jordanian flights. Not only were they more expensive than BA, but they were at anti-social hours. The incoming flight got in at 2am and the return flight required us to leave Aqaba at 4am.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

There may be benefit in changing the order of places visited to ensure that travellers do not have a long drive from Aqaba to Amman before flying home.

Petra. It exceeded our already high expectations and there was always something for the kids to look at or scramble over if the history got a little dry for them. The kids chose Petra and camping in the desert as joint top place. They walked for miles in Petra without a single moan.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Excellent, as always. Nothing was too much trouble and he was always available if needed for anything.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

"There was no trouble in Jordan, it's a very peaceful country. It's a good time to go as there are very few tourists around. It can be chilly. The April holiday was perfect as it's not too hot and, on the whole, not cold. I recommend a chunky fleece for early mornings especially in the desert."

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

Be aware that food and, especially, drinks are quite expensive in tourist areas. There were almost always options of where to eat so if you are on a tight budget check out the options. It's easy to rack up a big bill when a soft drink is £3 a pop and you don't notice. Pizzas and salads are cheap. The pizzas weren't very good (but handy for fussy kids) but the salads were excellent

Our first family Explore trip, with our 6 year old daughter. It was great to be on an adventurous holiday again and see a different culture. This is an excellent all round trip, with great highlights. The Roman city of Jerash was fascinating, Petra exceeded our (very high) expectations, the desert was great fun, as were the last few days by the Red Sea. The highlights for our daughter were riding (the biggest!) camel and snorkeling. I found the Dead Sea experience far more interesting and weird than expected. Spring was a great time to go as the land was green and the flowers blooming. The tour guide and local guides and drivers were excellent. The couple of long days of travel passed easily, helped by the presence of other children. The food was great. Only one gripe/word of advice - there are quite a few meals that are not included but effectively you have no choice where to eat and they are JD10 per head. (FJD- 3rd April 2010)
