East of England
Highlights: Swimming in crystal clear warm sea with turtles ambling by, hiking through scenic forests, delicious dining with the locals (surprisingly good for veggies), meeting the young Imam of a village mosque, learning lots about archaeology and the lives of those who built it from our super-knowledgeable tour leader.
Best bit: sea kayaking.
Tip: don't let snakes get in your canoe.

We really enjoyed the evening dinners together as a group, and the hike in the Taurus mountains was great. There were a couple of early morning starts which the children weren't so keen on!

Kas is a great base.
The itinerary is a good blend of adventure and relaxation.
The group is small enough to feel personal and friendly.
I like the fact that we patronised small local businesses
Would highly recommend this holiday.

Book your own flights - it seemed very chaotic the way some families were put on earlier flights from same departure airport, and another family did not fly from their nearest airport... Poor delivery of pre-departure info from Explore - I had to chase them up a lot, and the need for visa should have been HIGHLIGHTED to all travellers by the company as soon as the change had been made by Turkey earlier this year. The hotel has basic but adequate rooms. Unfortunately there was a terrible drains smell in one of our rooms which we reported but they did nothing about.I had to insist we had adjacent rooms as travelling with children age 8,8,10 and 12 who I would not have wanted on another floor - this is an OBVIOUS requirement which should have been arranged with the hotel way in advance of our arrival.

The canoeing and the kayaking were good fun activities. The other families we were with good fun and added a lot to the holiday. Our expedition leader was professional, thorough and showed a care for everyone on the holiday. It helps that he is local and seems to know most people and things.

The children loved jumping off the boat in the bay on the first day (all day), and the hotel pool and slide. I loved sea kayaking - a new experience for all the family, security and fun in a group trip and idyllic surroundings. My husband loved the walk in the mountains and the Turkish lunch. Something for everyone.Barbaros was good - he gave us the necessary amount of information without overload, and freedom to enjoy ourselves. A smiley man :)
