In Castellina-in-Chianti, we stay at the charming Hotel Colle Etrusco Salivolpi. A quarter of a century ago, the Falassi and Orlandi families established their hotel in two farmhouses dating back to the 1400s. The cosy and comfortable rooms have been decorated in a traditional Tuscan country style, with antique furnishings and open beam ceilings. All of the en-suite rooms come equipped with tea and coffee-making facilities, a safe, hairdryer, flat screen television, WiFi, air conditioning, pool towels and a bathrobe. There's a lovely garden for relaxing in and a swimming pool (open in season).

The Relais Chiostro di Pienza is a former Franciscan convent dating back to the 13th century, located in the hilltop town of Pienza. Each en-suite room has a unique character and enjoys views either over the Cloister, Pienza's historic centre or the hills of the Val d'Orcia. All are equipped with a hairdryer, flat-screen television, WiFi, air conditioning and pool towels. It has a swimming pool (open end of May to mid-September) and a panoramic terrace - the perfect place to relax with a cool beer or spritz after walking.

Suitability
Is this the trip for you?
- We've graded the walking on this tour as leisurely and moderate. You'll walk on four of the eight days, covering between 10 and 14 kilometres per day over three to five hours, with total ascents of 350-525 metres. The trails are a mix of strade bianche (compacted gravel roads), farm trails and mule tracks - generally good underfoot but potentially slippery in wet weather.
- It goes without saying that Florence is a bucket list destination. We'll have plenty of time to explore this iconic city, but you should be prepared for crowds.
- It gets incredibly hot in Italy during the summer months. Be prepared with light layers, and sun protection and remember to always carry water.
- If you'd like to witness Tuscany's rural beauty and cosmopolitan charm without the walking, we recommend taking a look at our A Taste of Tuscany tour (Trip code: XTY), which combines all of the region's highlights with local food and wine.
