What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin. The giant candy-coloured ice palaces, buildings and monuments were themed on Italy this year, so we circled an ochre-coloured Coliseum and crossed (gingerly) a humpy, icy, multi-coloured Rialto Bridge. In the parks we tried out the (mini) ice slide (slippery and scary but short), snapped away at the chunky snow sculptures carved into cute shapes and admired the intricate glistening ice carvings - a marlin, fish, dolphins, and of course horses, since it was soon to be the Year of the Horse.Mr Liu's delicious lunch and crickets (wrestling, not edible!) in the Beijing hutongs.Sampling silkworm (sweet) and snake (salty) kebabs in the Beijing Night Food Market.Being understood when I tried out my limited Mandarin, especially on the overnight sleeper.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

I booked the tour for the Harbin Ice Festival and Chinese New Year in Hong Kong and I wasn't disappointed in either.  The Ice Festival was awesome.  I couldn't have imagined it.  I expected to be standing by the side of the street at the Chinese New Year Night parade in Hong Kong but we had front row seats and it was an extravaganza, very enjoyable and very loud, as were the fireworks the next night. They were pretty spectacular.  Both events were very busy but the crowd control was excellent and at no time did it feel in any unsafe or threatening.  I also enjoyed China much more than on my first visit in 1986/7.  It has of course changed a lot.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

This tour was really incredible. It was the perfect way to see China for the first time. As this tour is outside of tourist season, all the wonderful places could be experienced without the crowds. A highlight of the tour was walking along the Great Wall with just our tour group and not more than 5 other people in sight - a very rare occassion according to our tour leader.
