Suitability

Is this the trip for you?

  • We've graded our tour of Egypt as moderate and we'll be moving at a fast pace to fit in all the highlights. Expect a packed itinerary balanced with some free time to relax or explore solo.

  • Egypt is a wonderfully welcoming destination and the locals are keen to chat to tourists - come with an open mind and immerse yourself in the region's warm culture.

  • Street selling and bartering are common in Egypt, particularly in the bazaars. A polite but firm "no thank you" is usually respected, and most locals are friendly and welcoming.

  • Our itinerary includes visits to Egypt's most famous temples and ruins. We recommend comfortable shoes for exploring, as well as a sun hat and sunscreen.

  • While Egyptian cuisine is full of flavour and a memorable part of many travellers' experiences, food choices outside the main cities can be more limited, with many restaurants specialising in traditional Egyptian fare.

  • To make the most of the cooler mornings and avoid the crowds, we will have a number of early starts.

  • We recommend carrying hand sanitiser and toilet paper, as public restrooms are often not fully equipped.

  • Many local dishes are cooked with either sesame (tahini), various varieties of tree nuts or dairy so it might be difficult to cater for those with severe allergies. If you have an allergy, you must inform us at the time of booking. Even when informed in advance, we can't guarantee a 100% allergy - free setting as there can always be some cross-contamination in kitchens or at buffet settings in hotels/restaurants

  • Being vegetarian in Egypt is relatively easy, with many traditional dishes naturally suited to a meat-free diet. Popular options such as ta'amiya (Egyptian falafel), ful medames (slow-cooked fava beans), and stuffed vegetables like zucchini and grape leaves are common staples on dining tables across the country.

  • Navigating Cairo's traffic requires patience and local knowledge, so travel times may occasionally be a little longer than initially estimated.

  • When docked, Nile cruise ships are usually moored lengthways alongside one another, meaning your ship may have another vessel on either side. To reach the port, you will often need to walk through the neighbouring ships.

  • Egypt observes Ramadan, the Islamic month - long festival of fasting. During this month, some services such as restaurants and cafes might not be available during the day.
