Our tour starts today in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico and the bustling heart and soul of the country. CDMX, as the city is also known, gives 'metropolis' a whole new meaning with a new landmark, museum or gallery at every turn, not to mention the countless colourful markets, cosmopolitan eateries and leafy parks. Due to the number of evening flights into the international airport, our tour leader will meet you on the morning of day two for a welcome meeting. Look out for a message in the hotel reception with timings and other details for the day. There are no activities planned today, so you're free to arrive at any time. If you'd like to receive an airport transfer today, you'll need to arrive into Mexico City International Airport (MEX) which is around a 30-minute to one-hour drive from the hotel (traffic dependant). As part of our Upgraded range, we also offer a complimentary transfer to those who have made pre-tour accommodation arrangements through us, regardless of your arrival day. If your flight arrives earlier in the day, you might like to have a stroll around Alameda Central, Mexico City's oldest municipal park, or visit the Templo Mayor Museum, which is known for its exhibits relating to the Aztec civilization. Mexico City is a true metropolis and it's impossible to fit the highlights into just one day. Our itinerary allows for limited time in the city, so if there's more you'd like to explore, such as Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul, the Palacio de Bellas Artes or the waterways of Xochimilco, we recommend adding additional nights to the start of your holiday. Suitability
Is this the trip for you?
- We've planned a packed itinerary and will spend a lot of time on our feet, exploring both cities and ruins. We recommend having a good level of fitness and packing comfortable shoes.
- Expect uneven terrain throughout this trip. Paths in Mexico City can be extremely uneven, as can ground at the archaeological sites we visit. We'll also encounter some inclines.
- During the summer months, it can get extremely hot in Mexico. If you're travelling between May and August, be prepared for tropical temperatures - pack light layers, use sun protection and stay hydrated.
- Temperatures can drop in Mexico City and you might also need a light jacket.
- During this tour, we use a range of vehicles depending on group size. Groups of up to seven travellers will travel by minivan, groups of 8-12 by Sprinter van, and groups of 13 or more by 30-seat minibus. For very small groups of three travellers or fewer, we may use a rental car.
- As part of our Upgraded range, this tour includes premium properties that we\ ve handpicked to bring you closer to the destination. Accommodation includes boutique hotels in Mexico's historic cities, a traditional hacienda near Chichen Itza and a luxury beachfront resort on Cozumel.
- Mexico City is a true metropolis and it's impossible to fit the highlights into just one day. Our itinerary allows for limited time in the city, so if there's more you'd like to explore, such as Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul, the Palacio de Bellas Artes or the waterways of Xochimilco, we recommend adding additional nights to the start of your holiday. Contact us to book your accommodation.
- Our tour finishes on Cozumel Island, where we have two nights. Cozumel is a stunning island with pristine coral reefs and world-class scuba diving opportunities - if you\ d like more time there, we recommend extending your stay on the island. Contact us to book your accommodation.
