Namibia has a good tourism infrastructure and generally good service standards. We start our tour in a superbly located eco-lodge on the outskirts of Windhoek. The boutique hotel has a restaurant, pool and panoramic vistas of the 3,200-hectare nature reserve.
Our next stop is a game lodge in the middle of the Kalahari desert. The gardens and pool here create a lovely atmosphere and the restaurant is renowned for its venison dishes.
In Sossusvlei, we stay inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park at the outstanding Dead Valley Lodge, which has won several design awards for its eco-design and scenic setting amongst the red sand dunes.
Travelling further into Swakopmund where we stay at a small, family-run hotel. Each of the spacious private rooms comes with its own little garden, perfectly set for you to enjoy the beautiful African coastal weather.
In Damaraland, we stay in a carefully curated lodge complex and during our time in and near Etosha we use two different properties including a number of elegant and well-equipped chalets offering a full 180-degree vista of the surrounding plains.
Finally, at Otjiwa we stay at a tented camp nestled amongst palm trees and the flat desert land.
Suitability
Is this the trip for you?
We've graded the pace of this Upgraded tour as moderate, however, we still have some lengthy drive to pack in the highlights.
Road conditions have improved vastly in Namibia over the past few years however, they're not up to the standard we're used to in the Western world. We'll be driving on gravel roads, and during game drives, we might be driving on sand all of which, can be very bumpy and dusty.
On this itinerary, your tour leader will also be your driver. While their main focus will be on the road, they’ll also share their knowledge of the sights, wildlife and places of interest you encounter along the way. We’ll make regular stops to explore key attractions, stretch your legs and soak up the scenery.
It can get incredibly hot in Namibia. We recommend wearing light layers and carrying water at all times.
This trip is operated in a modified 4x4 overland truck and the driver's cab and main passenger compartment might be separate. The trucks are equipped with a PA system so you won't miss out on any important information.
We've capped this trip at 10 passengers. This is the capacity of our all-terrain vehicles and also gives you a more intimate experience.
