Amazing and varied trip, hiking through stunning countryside. Mt Roraima is spectacular, with great views once you’re up there. You’re camping in remote areas and most of the time we were the only hikers. The pace of the hiking is v good and you can go as fast or as slow as you want. You get to swim (wash) in rivers every day, which is pretty bracing sometimes! After the hike you have the canoe ride to Angel Falls, again a lovely journey through the countryside. Angel Falls is incredible and you get to swim in it too. The nights in hammocks are unbelievably comfortable – best nights sleeps on the whole trip. Our guide was v thoughtful and a real character. The highlights were the views from Mt Roraima, the camp around Angel Falls, which was in beautiful, lush jungle and finally the two Cessna flights - seeing the country from the air. The 6 things I say are ‘musts’ to pack – (1) sweets and snacks, the more you can bring the better, you really need them and will demolish them on the hike (2) mosquito spray (min 50% deet) and a decent sized bottle of it too (3) biodegradable wash (large bottle) (3) long sleeved tops (those mossys get everywhere) (5) don’t over pack bring a little as possible (6) antihistamines, you’re going to get bitten and these will be a huge help with the itchiness. It says in the trip notes you need a 3-4 season sleeping bag, but you don’t really so I’d not bother carrying one, a 2 season or v small 3 season would do the trick. Also the notes say you need a rucksack for the porters but you don’t, the porters put the bags in a wicker basket and carry them, so literally any bag would do. One of our group used bin liners which was great as the porters didn’t have the weight of a bag and they just stuffed them on their backs. If you’re thinking of going – go, you won’t regret it.

Beautiful country. Potential to be dangerous, e.g. Caracas but well organised to ensure no issues. Accommodation is basic but to be expected. Wonderful experince, Angel Falls and Roraima even better than expected.
