- A good introduction to Corfu, with varied terrain and scenery including sections along the beach. We walked whole of the southern section of the trail, crossing the island twice. It would have been less enjoyable if the group hadn't gelled well as there was little opportunity to take meals outside the group. Hotter than expected for mid September - high 20s every day with little shade on two days - which made the going quite tough at times despite there being no big ascents. I walked in boots but multi-activity shoes, preferably without a membrane lining, would have been better in the heat as the walking was nowhere difficult underfoot. The last day could be done in trainers. Sports sandals would have been useful on the beach sections and would have avoided taking boots off three times to cross watery sections. Long trousers were redundant as vegetation was not a problem.
Spiros was an excellent guide. He was willing and keen to share his abundant knowledge of the island (particularly botanical) but never forced it upon us. We enjoyed his sense of humour.
The accommodation was pretty good. Most of our rooms had aircon, though it didn't work in one of them. A plug-in mosquito coil would have been useful at one place.
