Itinerary

Itineraries on some departure dates may differ, please select the itinerary that you wish to explore.

Day 1 - Join trip in Letojanni

We check into our hotel which will be our home for the week. The family run hotel only has 50 rooms and also offers triple as well as twin accommodation. It is located in central Letojanni with a splendid sea front which also allows you to enjoy the range of traditional bars, cafes and restaurants. Its location also gives easy access to all the included activities to minimise travelling time. There is a terrace garden and a furnished sun roof with a swimming-pool plus a large lounge, bar, TV hall and free internet connection. The buffet breakfast is served on the veranda-garden with dinner consisting of local and international dishes served in the restaurant. To add a cuisine variety, we also dine in local restaurants on a number of evenings.

We are able to arrange car seats for children. Please advise our sales team at the time of booking if you require this.

Day 2 - Forest trails, butterflies and a journey to the center of the earth!

A drive of around 45 minutes takes us to a tropical garden centre located inside the Monte Serra Natural Park. Here we find a butterfly house with hundreds of butterflies which we can observe at close range among the lush vegetation. We also enjoy a nature trail with a guide to learn about the forest ecosystem and plant and animal biodiversity within the park.

A short drive takes us to the Etna Museum which offers a fascinating opportunity to discover how the world's volcanoes work and how earthquakes are caused. The museum is great for kids with a number of interactive and educational activities which gives an idea of what it is like to experience a volcanic eruption. It takes you on a journey to the center of the Earth as well as giving an understanding of Etna and its history, myths, legends and natural features.

There are also large-scale reproductions of prehistoric reptiles and an area dedicated to dwarf elephants that lived in Sicily in prehistoric times. This gives an interesting insight into the theories related to the myth of Cyclops and theories on how volcanic eruptions caused the dinosaurs extinction.

We travel for 20 minutes to Giardini Naxos this morning where we travel by motor boat along the coastal area of the bay of Giardini-Naxos (there are shaded areas, changing room, toilet and showers on board - lifejackets are also provided). We visit the Isola Bella Marine Park where we stop for about an hour and swim near to various caves including the Grotta Azzurra, or the Blue Cave, snorkel, or just sunbathe and relax on the boat. The depths of the sea range from 50cm to 2-3 metres which allows for a variety of swimming abilities to enjoy the area. Snorkelling equipment is provided including; fins, mask, snorkel, wet suit and life jacket. Drinks, fruit and various snacks will be offered on board. After a stop at Capotaormina Bay, where we have another opportunity to swim, we return to the harbour at lunchtime. The afternoon is spent at the hotel where we can relax and enjoy the pool before dinner this evening in a local restaurant.

This morning we drive for 45 minutes to an adventure park which is located in the pine forest of the Park Scarbaglio. Try your hand at a selection of the nine high rope obstacles that include challenges such as climbing through a tunnel, over bridges and on wooden walkways which are all among the trees at various heights and difficulties - two of the trails are especially designed for children around 3-4 years of age with a wider choice for the older children based upon their ages and abilities. There is also a wide range of other included adventures including; two climbing walls, zip lines that travel over 600 meters, assault courses and canopy walks with a varying range of difficulties to suit all abilities and ages. Certain challenges require a minimum height of 1.1 meters and activity instructors and appropriate equipment are all provided. The afternoon is spent back at the hotel where we have dinner this evening.

Day 5 - Cable car and 4x4 up Etna, explore lunar landscapes

One of the highlights of our journey is a visit to the lunar landscape, craters and lava fields of Mount Etna, and at 3,300 meters, it is the highest volcano in Europe and one of the largest in the world. We'll drive up the mountain this morning, passing through citrus groves and beech woods up to around 1,900m to admire the Silvestri Craters. These are numerous spent craters that have been formed by eruptions which together with twisted lumps of lava have created a moonlike setting. This is also a great place to enjoy the panoramic views of the island in all directions. We then take the cable car from Rifugio Sapienza up the mountain to a height of 2500m before taking a 4x4 vehicle on our final leg of the journey which takes us up the winding track to a crater area at 2,900 meters which allows for amazing views of the surrounding area. We are escorted by an Alpine guide on this section of the adventure. After reversing our journey back down the volcano, we drive back to our hotel to enjoy the pool before dinner this evening in a local restaurant.

Day 6 - Visit Etna Land water theme park

Pack your swimsuits, water shoes, sunscreen and goggles as we experience the island's largest water theme park. The award-winning water park boasts over 14 slides all designed for excitement and adventure including; The Black Hole (you are seated on a 2-person dinghy that slides through a dark and twisting tunnel), Jungle Splash (20 seater boat with a drop of 30 meters towards the splash zone below), Hydro and Dark Kamikaze slides (both with steep drops so sheer that sometimes your back doesn't even touch the slide!), Twin Twister (four slides linked together over 120 meters) and Rafting River with a 4-person dinghy that slides right into the pool. The Wave Pool, the largest in Europe, comes to life every hour for splashing fun. Take a break from the excitement by enjoying a relaxing float around the Lazy River or at the Blue Lagoon, an oasis of rocks and waterfalls. You can also enjoy a hydro massage at the relaxing Hydro Pool.

Day 7 - Circumnavigate Mount Etna by train and visit an organic farm for pizza making

Today we drive the short distance to take the train from Giarre station, which is located at the base of Mount Etna, and travel around part of the circumference of the volcano for around an hour. The journey allows us to see the north slopes of Mt. Etnas and pass by the villages that are located on the volcano and enjoy the breath taking landscape and scenery. After the train ride finishes, a 10 minute walk takes us to the medieval town of Randazzo which is predominantly built using dark lava stones found on the volcano. We then take a short drive by 4x4 to an organic farm which specialises in teaching what its like to live on a farm. We'll get to sees cows, buffalos, pigs, goats and sheep as well as help out in the preparation of ricotta (a typical cheese) and homemade bread and even learn how to prepare pizza. Even better, we get the chance to taste a range of local and organic products before we have a short horse ride (hats are provided) around the farm. We then return to the hotel for our final group dinner.
