Family Adrenalin-O-Meter

Added 19 Mar 2013
Family Adrenalin-O-Meter

Want to try careening downhill on a mountain-bike or canyoning along a river? Or maybe you’re looking for a relaxing holiday cruising along beautiful coastlines?

However much of an adrenalin rush you’re looking for on your next adventure, check out our ‘adrenalin-o-meter’ below. It’s a quick guide to some activities which get the adrenalin pumping and, more importantly, which of our family adventures you can experience them on.

Suitable for everyone, but definitely top of our adrenalin-o-meter is canyoning. Canyoning involves a combination of a guided walk, scramble and clamber over rocks, swimming and walking through waterfalls and pools and paddling down a river gorge. Guaranteed action for all the family!

Try the following:
Croatian Active Adventure (FCA)
Pyrenees Activity Adventure (FPY)
Tuscan Active Adventure (FTY)

 Cycling1   Mountain biking

Careening downhill on a mountain bike is up there as one of the most active experiences available on our family holidays!

Try the following:
Inca Trail Teen Adventure (FPT)
Active Sicily (FSI)
Rock The Kasbah! (FAT)

 White-Water-Rafting1   Whitewater rafting

There’s never a dull moment when you’re rafting down-river through rapids. All equipment and instructions will be provided before you splash and crash along the water so you can feel confident as the adrenalin courses through your veins!

Try the following:
Rainforest Adventure (FCC)
Croatian Active Adventure (FCA)
Thai Hilltribe Adventure (FTH)

 Trekking-Walking1   Trekking

A way to really get the blood pumping is to get out and see the world on foot.  You’ll get right up close to the people and places you’re discovering as your family take on the challenge of a trek. The sense of achievement you’ll get at the end of the trek is a great feeling.

Try the following:
Toubkal Teen Trek (FHA)
Inca Trail Teen Adventure (FPT)

Riding animals

The opportunity to ride horses, camels and elephants is one not to be missed by those looking for extra excitement. Think it should be further down the adrenalin-o-meter? We’re not so sure - the moments when your camel stands up or walks up and down sand dunes will definitely get your heart-rate up!

Try the following:
Highlights of Egypt (FEA)
Into The Wild West (FAS)
Elephany Odyssey (FSL)

Safari/Game drives

While going on a game drive itself may not be adrenalin-fuelled in the traditional sense, there’s no denying that first glimpse of a tiger or one of The Big Five is going to get your heart pounding and the adrenalin-pumping!

Try the following:
Taj, Tigers and Palaces (FMG)
Okavango Adventure (FOA)
Serengeti Safari and Zanzibar (FTZ)

There’s always so much so see and do on land, but sometimes what the kids love to do is find out what’s going on under the water. Grab the mask and fins and give snorkelling a try.

Try the following:
Land of the Orang Utan (FBN)
Caigue Cruise (FGC)
Egyptian Adventure (FNF)

Though kayaking and canoeing require some physical effort, it’s still a fairly relaxing activity.  You can meander your way down rivers and around coastlines, giving the family the chance to see the world from the water – all under your own steam!

Try the following:
Pyrenees Activity Adventure (FPY)
Legends of Lycia (FLL)
Serengeti Safari and Zanzibar (FTZ)

 Cooking1   Cooking (and then eating!)

For kids, having the chance to make their own food before tucking in can be quite the novelty. Okay, so it might not be super-active but the fun levels are at their peak as you make a pizza from scratch or try your hand at knocking up some Thai cuisine.

Try the following:
In The Shadow of Vesuvius (FNA)
Backwaters and Beaches (FKB)
River Kwai & Jungle Adventure (FOT)

Beach Time

Beach-time tends to fall on the inactive end of the adrenalin-o-meter – whether you’re catching the sun or catching up on a good book. Of course, you and the family can make it more active simply by heading into the sea and swimming or snorkelling your way around the coast.

Try the following:
Active Nicaragua (FNI)
Tropical Islands & Jungle (FTT)
The Lost City of Petra (FJD)

 Cruising1   Cruising

If what you’re looking for is the complete opposite of an adrenalin-fuelled getaway, then take a look at our boat journeys. Relax aboard an ‘Oldtimer’ in Croatia or a ‘Caique’ in Greece and see the world from a whole new perspective – on the water.

Try the following:
Caigue Cruise (FGC)
Blue Cruise (FCE)
Cruise Croatia (FDC)
