Why Jordan?

Added 23 May 2012
Why Jordan?

Jordan is beautiful and historic country with some must see sites. August 2012 marked the 200th anniversary of the rediscovery of Petra - the country's most iconic site - by Swiss explorer Johann Burckhardt.

•    It’s completely safe: Since the Arab Spring, many people have grouped all of the Middle East into the same ‘no go’ basket, but you should have no concerns about visiting Jordan. The country has a constitutional monarchy and King Abdulla is well liked by the Jordanians. Jordan has had some demonstrations and rallies, but these have not been dissimilar to those we have had at home about proposed pension cuts for the public sector, for example. Unlike some other Arab countries, there are no restrictions on travel to the country.

•    Now is a great time to visit: Even though Jordan is completely safe some people have been put off by events happening elsewhere in the Middle East. As a result it’s a great time to go with smaller than usual crowds. This year also marks the 200th anniversary of the rediscovery of Petra and the 50th Anniversary of the classic movie Lawrence of Arabia. We are receiving excellent feedback from customers travelling to Jordan.

•    Ancient cultures and traditions: Offering the perfect setting for adventure, Jordan combines world renowned iconic sites with stunning landscapes and the mystique of the expansive Wadi Rum desert. Jordan is thriving in history and adventure and is waiting to be discovered.

•    All of our trips include the 'must-see' sites: Petra and Wadi Rum, not forgetting the opportunity to float on the Dead Sea. We have 9 tours to Jordan covering everything from short breaks to treks to comprehensive history tours – something for everyone, including families.
What our staff say about Jordan
Splashing about in the Dead Sea, sleeping under the stars in a Bedouin Camp and waking to fantastic scenery in Wadi Rum, camel treks and of course the awe inspiring Lost City of Petra. It had been a long standing ambition of mine to visit Petra and it by no means disappointed. Our guide told us the most fascinating stories as he led us through the Siq and it culminated in the unveiling of the Treasury – totally fantastic.

Petra by night is a magical experience – working your way through the Siq by candle light. It teases you with every twist and turn, waiting for the Treasury to appear before you, and it’s worth the wait. Lit by hundreds of candles, you will sit in front of the Treasury, sipping mint tea and listening to the beautiful music played for you by the Bedouins. Visit Petra at night before you visit during the day – it’s a great introduction, leaving you wanting more and excited about what’s to come.

One cannot imagine visiting Jordan without spending time in Petra.  The lure of Petra has magnified over the last few years and with good reason.  It never fails to impress.  However, there are some ways to enjoy and experience Petra that make it even more special and a surprisingly tranquil experience.  Early rising….getting down to the site for opening is one of the best ways to experience Petra in the cool and calm of the morning.

Jordan has some of the best food in the Middle East and when in Amman make sure you try a kebab or shawarma as it’s commonly known from the kebab shop next to the Belle Vue hotel on the 2nd circle, absolutely delicious!
