Annapurna Trekking

Annapurna Trekking

Linda Harris is Explore Product Manager for Latin America so was right out of her comfort zone when she travelled to Nepal...

"I did the Annapurna Panorama tour and I absolutely loved it. After consistently hearing great feedback from friends, I had wanted to go to Nepal for a while. Although I was really interested in the culture, I felt that I couldn’t go to Nepal without doing at least some trekking as that of course is what it is so famous for. I am not a keen trekker but do enjoy walking. This trip was ideal for me as it involved a four-day mini trek but it took in the main cultural and natural sights too, so was really well balanced.

The four-day trek is based in the Annapurna region and is designed to showcase the immense mountain panoramas which stretch as far as the eye can see. The trek is graded easy to moderate so most people with a reasonable level of fitness can enjoy it. There is time for a leisurely lunch every day and you arrive at camp (to find all the tents already set up!) mid afternoon so there is time to chill out before dinner. Having said that the walking isn't too hard, don’t expect much flat; as our guide pointed out, Nepalese flat is ‘a little bit up, a little bit down!’ However, it is worth it to see the mountain vistas in all their glory.

The guides and porters who accompanied us on the trek are incredible. Whilst you walk slowly, they rush past making it look easy. When you arrive at the lunch spot, they have already set everything up and are waiting with a drink before lunch is served shortly afterwards. We were all so impressed with the quality of food and drink on the trek; the cooks truly are miracle workers! A couple in my group were celebrating their wedding anniversary while we were away; with only a few hours notice they managed to whip up a delicious cake dedicated to them – amazing!

Apart from the trek, there are so many other highlights on this trip; the whitewater rafting, awe-inspiring views of the Himalaya on the optional scenic flight, searching for wildlife in Chitwan National Park on an elephant safari and discovering more about the fascinating culture. I would recommend this trip to anyone!"
