Top five winter escapes

Added 03 Oct 2013
Top five winter escapes

As grey skies and drizzling rain start to set in over the UK, why wouldn’t you want to get away on your next Explore Tailormade adventure? We’ve put together our top five destinations to travel to within the next six months, with some great money-saving offers, too:

TM-Kili Kilimanjaro – Start the New Year with a bang and climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest point, at 5895 m. Book a group of 10 or more passengers and we’ll throw in a space for free! Our preferred route is the longer Lemosho trail; this gives you a better chance of reaching the summit because it allows better acclimatisation and is one of the most scenic routes, too. We have a 95% success rate, compared to only 85% rate on the shorter Machame route.

Why travel now: December to March is the perfect time to trek Kilimanjaro, with short rains and warm temperatures. There’s still time to do your training, and why not add a few days on the beach at the end for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.

TM-Patagonia Patagonia – Glacial lakes, vast mountain ranges, beautiful national parks; Patagonia is home to some of the world’s most stunning scenery. With so many activities on offer such as walking and trekking, bird-watching, kayaking and photography, Patagonia is an outdoor-lovers’ paradise. Travel on our comfort-level Patagonia Explorer trip and save up to £85 per person. Book by 31st October and depart before 15th December.

Why travel now: November to March is Patagonia’s summer period. With long days and a sunny climate, it is perfect for outdoor activities.

TM-Antarctica Antarctica – Spot noisy penguins, whales and seals amid the ice-choked channels and snowy landscapes of Antarctica. For all departures aboard the M/S Expedition this winter, we are offering a free parka jacket and up to 20% off on selected departures. Or sail aboard the M/V Polar Pioneer and save 10% on selected departures.

Why travel now: Winter in the UK is Antarctica’s summer. With long days and clear skies, it is the only time of year when this uninhabited continent is accessible. Hurry though, there are limited spaces left.

India India – Avoid the British winter and visit chaotic, charismatic and colourful India. Plus, we have reduced all of our India prices so you can save up to £300 per person.* Time your northern India holiday right (mid-March) and you could experience Holi or the “Festival of Colours”. Marking the end of winter, the Festival of Colours is so-called after Lord Krishna who liked to play pranks on the village girls by drenching them in water and coloured powders. Book before 31st October for departures before 31st March 2014 and we’ll also send you a complementary guidebook for the north or south of the country, depending on where you’re travelling to.
*£300 saving is based on our Tiger Safari itinerary, Indulge level, departing in November 2013.

Why travel now: Winter is the best time to travel to India; the monsoon has passed, skies are generally clear and blue, the high humidity hasn’t started yet and temperatures are more bearable than hotter times of the year.

TM-Jordan Jordan – Jordan is full of history and culture where fantastic ancient sites meet scenic national parks; it’s perfect for sightseeing, trekking or relaxing. Jordan is also only a short flight away and so within just a few hours, you could be sleeping under the stars in Wadi Rum or relaxing in a spa hotel at the Dead Sea. Book before 31st October for departures before 31st March 2014 and we’ll send you a free guidebook.

Why travel now: Autumn and spring are the best times to travel Jordan, avoiding the soaring heat of the summer and surprisingly cold temperatures of winter. Spring temperatures also have longer days so you can make the most of your time.
