Top 5 Tailormade Treks

Whether you like to have a tough challenge or easier day walks, at Explore Tailormade we will add a hike or trek to your itinerary to suit your preferred activity level. Classic treks, scenic jungle hikes, mountain summits or cultural walks to meet local villagers, with so much on offer you are bound to find the perfect trekking holiday with Explore Tailormade. And book a group of 10 or more passengers and we’ll throw in a space for free!

Gran Parque Nacional Sierra Maestra – Follow in the footsteps of Che, Fidel and the rest of the revolutionary heroes in the Sierra Maestra, where they fought a protracted guerrilla war among these beautiful highlands during the 1950’s.The base of operations came to be known as La Comandancia de La Plata (1000m) and its location deep in the heart of this lush jungle landscape makes it one of the country's most fascinating and authentic experiences. A three-day trek will allow you to appreciate the resolve and spirit of the revolutionaries.
How fit do I need to be? This is a moderate trek, with some training before-hand most people manage the trail. We recommend taking walking poles as the jungle terrain can be both slippery and rocky. It can also get very humid.

Jebal Toubkal – Jebel Toubkal is located just a short distance outside of Marrakech and is the highest mountain in North Africa at 4167 m. A three day trek will take you through Berber villages to the summit of the mountain, arriving early in the morning to enjoy fantastic views of the High Atlas mountain range.
How fit do I need to be? This is a short trek and so it is a good start if you’re training for something a little tougher later on in the year. It is challenging, however we can always make it a little longer allowing more time to enjoy the scenery and visit more local villages. Alternatively opt for easier day walks from Imlil.

inca trail

Inca Trail – Undeniably one of the most iconic treks in the world, the Inca Trail has fantastic scenery and great opportunities to meet local communities along the way. However, the ultimate goal has to be standing at the Sungate and watching the clouds pass to reveal majestic Machu Picchu. If you fancy an extra challenge, climb up Huayna Picchu for alternative views of the impressive Inca Site.
How fit do I need to be? This is a moderate trek, with some training before-hand most people manage the trail. We recommend taking walking poles as some sections have steep ascents and descents.

Mount Kinabalu – Located in the north-eastern corner of Borneo, Mount Kinabalu is south-east Asia’s highest mountain at 4095m. A full day’s hike up through the dense rainforest takes you to a mountain hostel for the night. You’ll set off very early in the morning to arrive at the summit in time for sunrise.
How fit do I need to be? Most fit and healthy passengers achieve the summit of Mount Kinabalu without much hassle, however little training beforehand is always helpful.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro – Standing at 5895m Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest point. Our preferred route is the longer Lemosho trail; this gives you a better chance of reaching the summit because it allows better acclimatisation and is one of the most scenic routes, too. We have a 95% success rate, compared to only 85% rate on the shorter Machame route.
How fit do I need to be? Kilimanjaro is not a mountain to be taken lightly so start training early and break-in the walking boots.  Our superb porters and local guides are always on hand for extra encouragement and mental support.

We also have a range of easier walks and treks available that can be added to your tailor-made itinerary. Admire the views of sweeping glaciers and bright blue lakes in Patagonia’s Torres del Paine National Park; meet local hilltribes on a jungle trek in northern Thailand or Vietnam; enjoy the scenery while hiking in Mujib Nature Reserve and Wadi Dana in Jordan.

And remember, it’s tailor-made, so we can always add on a few days if you fancy the extra challenge. Call our Tailormade Regional Specialists for more information
