Chile – adventure domes in Patagonia

The Explore tailor-made team continually scour the planet for interesting, exciting and unusual things that you might like to see and do on your holiday. So when you are planning your perfect trip, they can give you a wealth of information and ideas to choose from. The emphasis is always on providing you with authentic experiences so that you really get a feel for the country you are visiting.

Internal view of dome

A big part of any holiday is the accommodation, so the team are always on the lookout for places which are a little bit different. If the wilds of Patagonia are on your wish list, we suggest you stay a few nights in an adventure dome. The domes provide accommodation which is akin to camping in some respects – there is only a thin layer between you and the great outdoors with minimal environmental impact – but is very different in terms of comfort. The spacious domes are four metres in diameter, have wooden floors, comfortable beds (twin), a large floor to ceiling window panel and separate bathroom facilities. All meals are provided by the local staff and can be taken in the dining dome. How about trying a classic Argentine steak washed down with a glass or two of excellent Chilean or Argentinean wine? Vegetarian options are also on offer.

Dome at night

Situated just 12km away from the front of the massive Perito Moreno Glacier, there are excellent views of the glacier’s snout as well as the lakes below it. They are truly out in the wilderness so you can expect wonderful peace and tranquillity and feel at one with nature. The domes provide the perfect base from which to go hiking and spot some of the area’s wildlife which includes condors, guanacos (similar to a llama), rhea (small ostrich) and wild flowers. A local guide can take you to the best spots. You can also visit the Perito Moreno National Park with the option to walk on to the glacier with crampons or simply sit and watch bits of ice calving off and crashing into the lake below. After the day’s activities you can relax in the comfort of your dome.

This is camping the glamorous way – or glamping as it is sometimes referred to!
