Adventure travel experts, Explore, have today launched a new five day tour allowing cyclists to experience the very best of the first two stages of the Tour de France.
Offering a slightly easier challenge than that which will be undertaken by Froome et al in July, Explore’s new The Way of Roses tour passes through some of the most impressive landscapes in Northern England as it journeys at a leisurely pace from coast to coast.
Costing from £449 per person, the tour cycles 272 km from Morecambe Bay on the west to Bridlington’s coast on the east, where cyclists will be rewarded with a champagne celebration and fish and chips on arrival. While riding through the Red and White Rose counties, cyclists will have time to admire the Lune Valley, the world-famous Yorkshire Dales, the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. Other tour highlights include cycling through idyllic villages en route, visiting the 12th century World Heritage Sites of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, and exploring the impressive cities of Lancaster and York.
This new tour is Explore’s second UK cycling tour*, and has been launched as a direct result of high demand for closer-to-home cycling experiences. Graded moderate, The Way of Roses tour departs in June, July and September 2014. The price includes bike hire, hotel and guest house accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, one other meal and the services of a tour leader and support vehicle.
Ashley Toft, Managing Director of Explore, commented “This summer, the first two stages of the world’s greatest cycle race - the Tour de France - will be taking place in Yorkshire. The world’s elite riders will be riding through the magnificent cities and breath-taking countryside of the White Rose County and showcasing the fascinating scenery that can be found there”.
He continued, “You don’t need the hill-climbing endurance of Chris Froome or the sprinting legs of Mark Cavendish to appreciate Yorkshire on a bike however. Our new tour traverses the entire county from west to east, crossing both stages of the ‘Grand Depart’ and giving cyclists the chance to see what lured the race to Yorkshire, but at a more leisurely pace”.
