Discover highlights of Burma on new tour from Explore

Customer demand for exploring Burma is never-ending and today, adventure travel expert Explore is excited to respond with the launch of yet another tour to this far-flung destination. What started out as just one tour with 12 departures in 2011 has since grown to over 120 departures, across six different tours - in addition to three tailor-made itineraries.

Complementing Explore’s existing collection of six discovery, cycling and trekking group tours to Burma, Essential Burma is a new highlights tour, designed to showcase the very best of the country in a more condensed time-frame. Travelling over two weekends, the nine-day tour provides an action packed adventure, discovering Burma’s capital Rangoon (Yangon), the golden Shwedagon Pagoda; the world-famous leg-rowing fisherman of Inle Lake; and the U Bein bridge in Amarapura at sunset. Offering a fantastic insight into the local culture, customers will have the chance to soak up local life on a cycling trip to a village near Bagan and around the temples, and enjoy a walk through the evening fish market at Mandalay.

Starting from £1,895 per person, this tour includes flights; eight nights’ hotel accommodation with breakfast; transport including a boat down the Irrawaddy River, horse and cart, bus and bike; and the services of a tour leader. Essential Burma has four departures for 2013, starting on 9 August 2013.

Explore was one of the first UK tour operators to return to Burma following the relaxation of the tourism boycott at the end of 2010. The company have closely followed the advice of Aung San Suu Kyi and unlike some other operators, ensure to use privately owned hotels, flights and other services where possible to minimise contact with the government. In addition, it continues to closely follow the guidelines of Burma Campaign UK for all of its tours to the country, ensuring that it acts appropriately and responsibly for the benefit of the Burmese people and its customers.

Ashley Toft, Managing Director for Explore, commented “All of our tours to Burma have been extremely popular. The minimum duration for each of these, up until now however, has been two weeks. In response to customer demand, we have created this new tour for the many travellers who are desperate to unearth this long-hidden destination, but simply don’t have the time to spare. At just nine days, customers can take a minimal amount of leave from work, while still experiencing all the not-to-be-missed sights”.

He continued “Remaining true to our principles of being a trusted and responsible tour operator, customers travelling to Burma with Explore can rest assured that the money they spend helps the local communities they visit. For a country that has remained virtually untouched by tourism for so long, it’s important to us and our customers that the tourism we create has a positive impact on the people of Burma”.
